Welcome
The automotive industry is one of the most important industrial branches in Bavaria with leading manufacturers, a wide spectrum of excellent suppliers and highly advanced development centres. With an annual turnover of € 71.2 billion and an export share of 61,5%, it holds a leading position in the international marketplace. The automotive industry stands for high efficiency, quality and cutting edge innovation. New vehicles with even more safety features and comfort as well as reduced fuel consumption are only a few targets. The complexity of the automobile necessitates networking horizontally across different sectors and technologies and vertically along the supply and value chain. This extensive networking is supported by the Bavarian Innovation and Cooperation Initiative for the Automotive Suppliers Industry (BAIKA), initiated by the Bavarian State Government already in 1997. The trend was recognized early on that suppliers were evolving more and more into cooperation partners, contributing essentially to competitive innovation and generating nowadays more than 70% of the value of a car. BAIKA brings together manufacturers, suppliers, new-comers, innovative start ups and research institutes by means of congresses, cooperation fora and internet sites, thus paving the way for the targeted cooperation of new developments. In this way, BAIKA has evolved into a leading international network that encompasses around 1,800 companies and institutes in Bavaria, the rest of Germany, Europe, North America and Asia. With the Cluster Initiative, the Bavarian Government is placing yet more emphasis on an even stronger networking of companies and institutes in Bavaria. This meets the trend of increasing individualization of cars that demands even more customer orientation, speed and flexibility.
Bayern Innovativ, as the BAIKA project coordinator, will also be responsible for the management of the Automotive Cluster. This year, Bayern Innovativ is planning and organising, for the eighth time, the annual “Zulieferer Innovativ” congress – one of the most important international meetings for the automotive industry – together with the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA) and the IFG-Ingolstadt, and with extensive support from the Bavarian Ministry of Economic Affairs, Infrastructure, Transport and Technology. Internationally renowned experts from industry and science will report on the newest developments and current trends in design and functionality of the car body, flexibility and efficiency in production and cooperative research as a basis for future technologies. The accompanying exhibition is an attractive market place presenting current development and manufacturing expertise, thus providing the opportunities to initiate new cooperations. I wish the annual congress much success and cordially invite all interested parties to participate.
