THE CEC KEY The CEC Key enables you to browse through the ebook and to project pages onto a large screen. On each page it is possible to: • personalize the lessons • save your notes • follow several Internet hyperlinks • use versatile annotation tools: pencil, marker, notes • maximize or mask portions of a page In addition, whiteboard mode allows you to personalize and manage courses and exercises using the tab menu. The CEC Key is easy to use: just insert it into one of your computer’s USB ports to automatically access the ebook and the Complice Virtuel resources. You can use the CEC Key with or without Internet access, and no software installation is required.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS • PC with a USB 2.0 port • 800 x 600 or higher resolution* • Windows XP or higher

To Access Complice Virtuel Documents and Internet Links: • Adobe Reader, version 8.0 or higher • Microsoft Office Word, version 2003 or higher • Web browser (Firefox, Google Chrome, Safari, Internet Explorer, etc.)

GETTING STARTED To launch the ebook, insert the CEC Key in one of your computer’s USB ports. USB ports are usually identified by the symbol at right: When you insert the key, Windows automatically detects the new hardware. USB ports are unidirectional, which means that a key can only be inserted one way. Never try to force the key, since this may damage the key or port.

The CEC Key launch screen should appear on your desktop. The Windows “Autorun/Autoplay” function may be deactivated. If so, double-click on the “My Computer” icon on the desktop. If you do not have a “My Computer” icon on your desktop, click on the “Start” menu in the bottom left-hand corner of the screen.

Your computer may not recognize the CEC Key. If the key is connected to a USB concentrator or a USB hub, plug it directly into one of the computer’s USB ports. If Windows still does not recognize the CEC Key, your USB port may be damaged, or the key may be defective. In the latter case, please contact Éditions CEC technical support to correct the situation.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Can I simply remove the key from the computer to close the program? If the key is removed before Windows has closed the program, your data could be corrupted. This happens when the key is removed while the program is reading or writing data.

What do I do if Windows says that it cannot close the program? Close all the applications that are using the key. If Complice Virtuel files are open in Word or Adobe Reader, close them before removing the key. If Windows still cannot close the program, close the Windows work session, then remove the key.

Can I use the key to store personal documents? No. The key is to be used exclusively to store ebook data. Using the key to store personal documents may render the key unable to update its contents. You will then be unable to save notes, whiteboards or their content.

What do I do if the computer cannot open a DOC or PDF file? To open a DOC or PDF file, you must have the necessary software. In the case of a DOC file, you can use Microsoft Word. There is also Openoffice.org, which is available free of charge on the Internet. In the case of PDF files, we strongly recommend that you use Adobe Reader, available free of charge on Adobe’s website.

Can I use the CEC Key on a Mac? The CEC Key is compatible with Windows XP and later versions of the operating system. If you have a Mac with an Intel processor, you can install Windows on a “Boot Camp” partition or using emulation software such as Parallels Desktop. Les Éditions CEC does not offer technical support in these situations. For further questions, consult the CEC Key FAQ sheet at: www.clecec.com/faq (available in French only).

CEC KEY SOFTWARE Version 3.2 of the CEC Key includes four separate software programs: the Teacher’s Key (an improved version of version 1.1), the Answer Booklet, the Student Key and the Reader. While the Student Key, the Answer Booklet and the Reader are separate from the Teacher’s Key, they are included on the USB key and can be projected onto a large screen. With the exception of a few tools and functions, the interfaces are similar from one program to the next. Teacher’s Key: The Teacher’s Key includes all of the tools and functions described in the following pages, except the Answer Booklet. The Teacher’s Key allows you to project the ebook onto a large screen and provides access to a range of tools needed to explain the subject. It includes annotation tools, as well as note, spot, zoom, Complice Virtuel, whiteboard mode and additional tools in some collections. Student Key: The Student Key is a simpler version of the Teacher’s Key, and can also be projected onto a large screen. It includes annotation tools, note, spot, zoom and whiteboard mode. Access to Complice Virtuel files, however, is not allowed. Answer Booklet: The Answer Booklet allows you to display the answers to the questions. Where possible, a “☑” button is displayed on every Answer Booklet page. The Answer Booklet includes all the same tools as the Teacher’s Key. Reader: You can decide whether or not to display the text on each page of the reader using the “Text” button at the top of each page. The Reader includes all the same tools as the teacher’s key.
