Player

of the Year Nate Davis Algonquin Regional Senior, Singles avis has an extensive résumé, including this season’s Central Mass. Individual championship and leading the Tomahawks to the CMass Division 1 title. This is the fourth time Davis has been named to the Super Team. A captain for the past two seasons, he was undefeated in singles play and led coach Dick Lodi’s Tomahawks to a 16-4 record and a berth in the state semifinals. Algonquin knocked off Shrewsbury for the district title, defeating Gardner and St. John’s along the way. Davis was named the Super Team’s Player of the Year after defeating Westboro High’s Josh Lurier for the individual championship, avenging last year’s defeat. He lost to Needham’s Aaron Revzin in the state semifinals. Davis reached the Central Mass. semis as a junior and freshman, and the quarterfinals as a sophomore. He has been a MidWach A All-Star all four years and was named league co-MVP this spring. Davis will attend Malone University in the fall. Winning the Central Mass. title and playing in the state semifinals were his most memorable sports moments. He’s the son of Liz and Rob Davis of Southboro.

reen reached the quarterfinals of the Central Mass. singles tournament before falling to Bromfield’s Tyler Phelan. Breen, a 6-foot-3 senior captain, was a Central Mass. Conference All-Star for coach Edward Hippert’s 11-10 Pioneers, who reached the Division 1 district semifinals. A four-year member of the tennis team, Breen also participated in skiing and crew and earned the school’s Pioneer Award. He will attend Marquette University in the fall. An Eagle Scout, Breen lists beating St. John’s Prep of Danvers last season, and playing doubles with Chris Bannon, as his most memorable sports moments. His sister, Elizabeth, was a member of the 2008 Super Team. He’s the son of Kathleen and Timothy Breen of Holden.

hhaya reached the quarterfinals of the Central Mass. Individual Tournament, knocking off seventhseeded Brent Walkoff of Nashoba Regional along the way, to earn a spot on the Super Team. A captain for coach Josh Handy, Chhaya led the Colonials to the Division 1 final, where they lost to Algonquin, 3-2. Shrewsbury qualified for the Central Mass. playoffs in each of his four years. This season, Chhaya was named a Mid-Wach A All-Star for the 15-6 Colonials. The 5-foot-101⁄2 senior will attend the University of Connecticut next year and hopes to become a doctor. His most memorable sports moment was stepping in to play No. 1 singles for the first time and defeating an eventual CMass champion. He is the son of Meha and Yatish Chhaya of Shrewsbury.

he 5-foot-10 senior formed a fearsome tandem with Jeff Paadre, capturing the Central Mass. doubles title and a spot on the T&G Super Team. Hall and Paadre defeated Shrewsbury’s Alex Minalga and Jose Olivares, 4-6, 6-1, 6-4, to advance to the state semifinals. Hall, a captain, led coach Dennis Stamos’ Sammies to a 17-2 season, the Dual Valley Conference title, and a runner-up finish to Bromfield School in the Central Mass. Division 3 tourney. He was named the DVC’s Doubles Player of the Year, was a three-time DVC All-Star, and was the league’s co-MVP. He also enjoys soccer, running and band. He will attend Clark University and hopes to become a chemistry or history teacher. He’s the son of Patty and David Hall of Sutton.

ordan reached the semifinals of the Central Mass. Individual tournament. There, the 5-foot-8 senior fell to teammate Nate Davis in an exciting three-set match, 6-2, 4-6, 4-6. Jordan, a captain for coach Dick Lodi’s Tomahawks, completed the regular season undefeated in singles play and led the charge to the Central Mass. team championship. A twotime Mid-Wach A All-Star and this year’s co-MVP, Jordan also played soccer and hockey. An avid fly fisherman, the Brandeis-bound Jordan hopes to become an orthopedic surgeon. Sister Jodie was a softball all-star in 2002 and ’03, and brother Matt was part of Algonquin’s state championship soccer (’04, ’05) and baseball (’06) teams. They’re the children of Jan and Mark Jordan of Northboro.

urier earned his third Super Team selection in as many years. The 5-foot-8 junior reached the Central Mass. Individual final for the second year in a row after making the quarterfinals as a freshman. Lurier was undefeated in the regular season, his only loss coming to Algonquin’s Nate Davis in the Central Mass. final. Lurier has been a part of three tourney teams with the Rangers, the 2007 squad reaching the state final. The captain-elect for 2010, he was named Mid-Wach B MVP and was a league all-star all three seasons. Lurier enjoys playing guitar and all sports. He is undecided on a college but he is leaning toward a career in medicine. His father competed in track and baseball at Doherty High. He’s the son of Kim and Peter Lurier of Westboro.

ailhot earned his second berth on the Super Team, adding to his 2006 selection as a freshman. The 5-foot-11 senior captain reached the Central Mass. quarterfinals where he fell to eventual winner Nate Davis of Algonquin. Mailhot, an Oxford resident, was 20-2 at first singles for coach Chuck Hamparian’s 18-4 Warriors. A four-time MVP of the tennis team, Mailhot also played four years of soccer. He enjoys music and dirt biking, and will attend Bridgewater State to major in business management. Mailhot has an uncle who is a tennis pro in Denver. Matt’s most memorable sports moment was at the end of this season when Tantasqua held an alumni match against this year’s team. He is the son of Tamara Hitman and Andre Mailhot.

his 6-foot sophomore makes his first Super Team appearance. He and partner Jose Olivares reached the final of the Central Mass. Individual tournament in doubles. Along the way, the third-seeded Colonials knocked off Tantasqua’s secondseeded Kris Meunier and Dan Piascik in a classic, 6-3, 5-7, 7-5. In the final, Minalga and Olivares fell to Sutton’s Jeff Paadre and Dan Hall, 6-4, 1-6, 4-6. Minalga also was part of Shrewsbury’s drive to the Central Mass. team final, where it lost to Algonquin, 3-2. The honor roll student finished his doubles season with a 13-1 record for coach Josh Handy, and has been named a captain for the 2010 season. A Mid-Wach A All-Star, Minalga also enjoys music and is the violist in the Central District Orchestra. He enjoys playing table tennis in his spare time and lists being a district doubles finalist as his most memorable sports moment. He’s the son of Mary and Bob Minalga of Shrewsbury.

livares teamed up with sophomore Alex Minalga to advance to the Central Mass. Individual doubles finals to earn a spot on the Super Team. The duo knocked off the higherranked team of Kris Meunier and Dan Piascik of Tantasqua Regional, 6-3, 5-7, 7-5, in a hardfought semifinal match. In the final, the Shrewsbury duo met their match in Sutton’s Jeff Paadre and Dan Hall, who prevailed, 4-6, 6-1, 6-4. Olivares, a 5-foot-11 senior, was captain for coach Josh Handy’s 16-5 Colonials, who advanced to the Central Mass. final before falling to Algonquin Regional, 3-2. A Mid-Wach League All-Star, Olivares also received the school’s Harry Wolf Award for his dedication and excellence in tennis. Olivares’ grandmother, Gilda Aranda Ceballos, swam for Mexico in the Olympics. Jose’s most memorable sports moment was playing in the district doubles final. He is the son of Gilda and Arturo Olivares of Shrewsbury.

aadre and partner Dan Hall formed the best doubles pair in Central Mass. this year, winning the Central Mass. Individual doubles title by topping the Shrewsbury team of Alex Minalga and Jose Olivares, 4-6, 6-1, 6-4. In the state semifinals, the pair fell to eventual state champs Mitch Henry and Gordon Peters of Wellesley. Paadre, a 6-foot-1 twotime captain, led coach Dennis Stamos’ Sammies to a 17-2 record and a runner-up finish to Bromfield in the Central Mass. Division 3 team tourney. Paadre, along with Hall, was named Dual Valley Conference Doubles Player of the Year, and he was a league all-star for the third time. In his spare time, Paadre enjoys coaching youth basketball. He will attend Holy Cross with a double major in economics and political science. He’s the son of Susan and Heikki Paadre of Sutton.

he only freshman on the Super Team, Phelan made the semifinals of the Central Mass. Individual tournament to earn the first of what could be multiple appearances. The 6-foot captain won four matches without losing a set before running into Westboro’s Josh Lurier in the semifinals, where he lost, 6-4, 6-3. Phelan led John Carver’s Trojans to the Central Mass. Division 3 title with a 4-1 victory over Sutton. With a 21-1 record, the Trojans’ only loss was to Mount Greylock in a state semifinal. Phelan was named MVP of the Mid-Wach D. In his spare time, he enjoys playing basketball. Phelan’s most memorable sports moment so far was winning the district team tennis championship. He is the son of Lillian and Jim Phelan of Harvard.

Brian Rothermich Sutton High Sophomore, Singles othermich made the semifinals of the Central Mass. Individual tournament to earn a spot on this year’s Super Team. The unseeded Rothermich knocked off eighth-seeded Joe Barkus of Auburn, 7-5, 6-2, to reach the quarterfinals, where he met Westboro High’s Josh Lurier and lost, 6-1, 6-1. Rothermich was part of a 17-2 Sammies team that reached the Central Mass. Division 3 team final under coach Dennis Stamos, falling to Bromfield in the title match. The 5-foot-10 sophomore also competes in soccer and track at Sutton. In his spare time, Rothermich enjoys listening to music, playing all sports, and hanging out with friends. His goals are to capture another district championship and to continue playing tennis in college. He lists winning the 2008 district title as his most memorable sports moment. He’s the son of Susan and Gregory Rothermich of Sutton.

of the Year Marina Fileva Marlboro High Sophomore, Singles nly a sophomore, Fileva repeated as Central Mass. Individual champion, rallying to beat Notre Dame Academy’s Caitlin Foley in the semifinals and Algonquin’s Stephanie Hom in the final. Fileva eventually fell in the state final to Lynnfield’s Sarah O’Neil, 6-0, 6-0, but her accomplishments led her to be named the T&G Super Team’s Player of the Year. Fileva headed into the state final with a remarkable 18-0 record and improved on last year’s performance, when she reached the state semifinals as a freshman. The Mid-Wach B’s MVP for the second straight season, Fileva was the top seed in the CMass Individual tournament and bested some quality opponents on her voyage to the title, including Nashoba’s Jess Demer, Algonquin’s Ariana Alexandrescu, Tantasqua’s Katie Morrissey and St. Peter-Marian’s Kayla Boyer. Fileva also helped the Panthers to a 13-7 mark before falling to eventual state champion Algonquin in the Central Mass. Division 1 team tournament. Fileva’s hobbies include soccer and spending time with friends. She is the daughter of Ivan and Kristina Fileva.

enoit reached the quarterfinals of the Central Mass. Individual tournament to earn a spot on the Super Team. She also helped the Guardians to a 15-3 record and a berth in the Central Mass. Division 1 team semifinals. Benoit has been a starter since the seventh grade and is a two-time Central Mass. Conference All-Star. She had an outstanding season as St. Peter-Marian’s No. 1 singles player, going 17-1 with her only regularseason loss to Marina Fileva of Marlboro, the Central Mass. Individual tourney champ. Benoit is a member of the National Honor Society and the Student Council, and helps with the Special Olympics. She has an athletic background with two of her relatives — Michael Pacheco (St. John’s) and Matt Sturgis (St. Peter-Marian) — former T&G Super Teamers in football. Benoit dedicated this season to her grandfather, Anthony Pacheco, which she called her most memorable sports highlight. She is the daughter of Cindy and Michael Benoit of Holden.

She has played tennis all four years at Wachusett and was a Mid-Wach All-Star this year. She helped the Mountaineers and coach Pauline Smith to a 14-6 season, falling to eventual state champion Algonquin in the Central Mass. Division 1 team semifinals. Boss enjoys photography and swimming in her free time and will attend Anna Maria College in the fall with hopes of becoming an elementary school teacher. Her grandfather, Ernie Boss, is a member of the New England College Basketball Hall of Fame, and in the St. Peter’s and Leicester Junior College halls of fame for basketball and baseball. Her aunt, Elizabeth Leonard, is a former T&G All-Star in soccer, basketball and tennis. Marissa is the daughter of Jessica and Eric Boss of Holden.

oyer was picked for the Super Team by virtue of reaching the quarterfinals of the Central Mass. Individual tournament before falling to eventual state finalist Marina Fileva, 6-2, 6-4. Boyer also helped the Guardians to a 15-3 record and a spot in the Central Mass. Division 1 semifinals. She has played tennis for four years and has spent the last two years on the field hockey and indoor track teams. A captain for coach Sheila Leonard’s tennis squad, Boyer is a four-time Central Mass. Conference AllStar. She said her most memorable sports moment was making consecutive district tourney appearances. Boyer will attend Stonehill College in the fall and major in political science. She enjoys exercising, traveling and spending time with friends, and is the daughter of Linda and Jay Boyer of Worcester.

nglund and doubles partner Lauren Main have played together for the past three years, and that familiarity yielded results this year as they captured the Central Mass. Individual title in doubles, and helped the Blue Raiders to a berth in the CMass Division 3 team final. Englund was named team MVP and was a Dual Valley Conference All-Star after she and Main won 23 straight matches before losing in the state individual semifinals. Hopedale finished 19-3 on the season after losing to Notre Dame Academy in the Division 3 district final. Englund said the CMass individual championship and beating top-seeded Algonquin Regional en route to the team final were her most memorable sports moments. She is the daughter of Ann and Bill Englund of Hopedale.

Caitlin Foley Notre Dame Academy Sophomore, Singles oley earned a spot on the T&G Super Team after reaching the semifinals of the Central Mass. Individual tournament. The sophomore helped the Rebels to their sixth consecutive Central Mass. Division 3 team title, as NDA defeated Hopedale. Foley was named to the Central Mass. Conference All-Star team as Notre Dame finished 19-1, suffering its only loss in the Division 2 state semifinals. Foley said her nearfour-hour marathon match against fellow Super Teamer Jacqui Holmes of Bromfield — which she won, 6-2, 4-6, 7-6 (7-4) — was her most memorable sports moment. Foley plays tennis year-round and is hoping eventually to pursue a career as a stockbroker. She is the daughter of Darlene and Brian Foley of Holden.

Hershman has played tennis at Wachusett for the past three years and helped the Mountaineers, coached by Pauline Smith, to a 14-6 record and an appearance in the Central Mass. Division 1 team semifinals. Hershman enjoys reading, working out and playing even more tennis in her spare time. Her brother, Brett, played golf, baseball and basketball at Bancroft School, graduating in 2006. Hershman said her most memorable sports moment was this year’s victory over St. Peter-Marian — the first time in a while that the Mountaineers had beaten SPM. Dana is the daughter of Joan and Jay Hershman of Holden.

ain and her doubles partner, Katherine Englund, were named Dual Valley Conference co-MVPs after capturing the Central Mass. Individual tournament championship. The duo also helped the Blue Raiders to a 19-3 record, including a loss to Notre Dame Academy in the Division 3 team final. Main and Englund were undefeated until the state individual semifinals and finished with a 23-1 mark. Main called the doubles championship and the victory over top-seeded Algonquin on the way there her most memorable sports moments. Main also plays basketball for Hopedale, as did her brother, Daniel, who is now playing for Wheelock College. Lauren is the daughter of Ellen and Brian Main of Hopedale.

nly a sophomore, Hom has established herself as one of the top players in Central Mass., helping the Tomahawks to their first-ever Division 1 state tennis championship with a remarkable 21-0 record. Hom won a grueling three-set battle with Wellesley’s Abby Henry, 6-4, 0-6, 6-3, to clinch the title for Algonquin, which she called her most memorable sports moment. Hom also reached the final of the CMass Individual tournament before falling to the returning champion, Marlboro’s Marina Fileva, 6-1, 7-5. Hom was named the Mid-Wach A’s MVP and was a Metrowest Daily News Superstar. Hom also is a standout volleyball player at Algonquin, and plays club volleyball. She enjoys photography and baking in her spare time. She’s the daughter of Jennifer and Bob Hom of Southboro.

Lauren Rothermich Sutton High Senior, Singles ne of the more accomplished players to hold a racket for the Suzies, Rothermich was named the Dual Valley Conference’s Player of the Year and team MVP after reaching the final of the Central Mass. Individual tournament. Rothermich also led the Suzies to a 13-3 record, which included a loss in the Division 3 team semifinals. A three-time tennis MVP for Sutton, Rothermich is also a standout in cross country and indoor track. Rothermich enjoys music and going to the beach in her spare time, and she will attend University of Connecticut in the fall, where she’ll pursue a degree in environmental science. Her mother Sue, who is also her coach, played at UConn. Rothermich said she’ll always remember the sportsmanship and passion of her team. She’s the daughter of Sue and Greg Rothermich of Sutton.

Jenn Zastrow Wachusett Regional Senior, Singles astrow wrapped up a solid career for the Mountaineers by earning the team MVP award and making her third consecutive appearance on the T&G Super Team after reaching the quarterfinals of the Central Mass. Individual tournament. Zastrow has been a MidWach A All-Star for the past three years. When not playing tennis, she enjoys playing soccer, baking and reading. Zastrow will attend Southern New Hampshire University in the fall to study baking and pastry arts. Zastrow called her comeback victory over Shrewsbury’s Ruby Lee, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, in this year’s individual tournament her most memorable sports moment. She is the daughter of Kathy Helie and William Zastrow of Rutland.

Individual quarterfinals before losing to Notre Dame Academy’s Caitlin Foley, 6-1, 6-1. Holmes is a four-time Mid-Wach C MVP and advanced to the semifinals of the CMass tournament as a junior and the quarterfinals as a sophomore. She also helped the Trojans to a 14-6 season. She completed her high school career with 82 wins and 20 losses, and never lost a league match. Her most memorable sports moment was a nearfour hour match against Foley. Holmes will attend Bates College and would like to become a teacher. She’s the daughter of Dilia and Chris Holmes of Harvard.

of the Year Trent Baltzell Sutton High Senior, High Jump iguring out who’s the premier athlete in a sport filled with distinguished candidates can be a nebulous process, but not this time. Baltzell made a compelling case for the title of T&G Super Team Athlete of the Year with some brilliant results. The 6-foot-5, 175-pound senior standout was a runaway winner at the Central Mass. Decathlon, his 6,314 points establishing a meet record. Baltzell considers that mark — which he set after completing the 1,500 meters, the 10th and final event, with a balky hamstring — to be his most memorable sports moment. He won the high jump, discus, 110 hurdles and 400 hurdles at the Dual Valley Conference Championships. The Central Mass. Championships brought more success, Baltzell winning the high jump (6 feet, 8 inches) for the second time in three years and placing second in the 400 hurdles (58.52 seconds). He holds school records in the discus (138 feet) and high jump, his 6-9 leap taking third at the state meet. Baltzell, who was named to five T&G Super Teams in track, is headed to the University of Rhode Island. He’s the son of Jane and Mark Baltzell of Sutton.

A

rpante is another in a long line of champion pole vaulters to come out of Westboro under the tutelage of assistant coach Doug Lang. The 5-foot-7, 145-pound senior repeated as Central Mass. Class A pole vault champion, emerging from a competitive field to clear 12 feet, 6 inches. Arpante, who captained the Rangers to an undefeated dual-meet season, placed fourth at the state meet with a personal best of 13-6. hen it comes to mixing athletics and academics, Blanchard has it down to a science. An all-star lineman for the Spartans’ football team that went 7-4 and recorded its fourth straight Thanksgiving win over archrival Gardner High last fall, Blanchard also made an indelible impression in his final season of outdoor track. The senior shot putter won the Mid-Wach C title and was second at the Central Mass. Class B meet before claiming gold at the CMass championships. Blanchard’s winning throw of 50 feet, 81⁄4 inches came on his final attempt and was a personal best by more than four feet. The National Honor Society member also led the way in the classroom and will attend Tufts University on a full academic scholarship to study biomedical engineering. He’s the son of Stella Porter of Ashburnham.

oyle had a year most seniors only dream about, making three T&G Super Teams. There were successful team title defenses in cross-country (Central Mass. Division 1) and indoor track (Division 3 state meet) before the trifecta was completed with the Chieftains’ win at the Central Mass. Championships. Individually, Doyle won the 800 meters for a second straight year at the CMass meet, lowering his own meet record to 1 minute, 53.19 seconds, but just off his personal best of 1:52.97, and he anchored the 3,200-meter relay team in a convincing victory. Doyle, whose next stop is the University of Massachusetts, was a close second at the state meet in the 800 and part of a fourth-place foursome in the 3,200 relay at the New England championships. Joe is the son of Johnna and Sean Doyle of Lancaster.

he Emerson College-bound Fiore hopes to someday write and direct films for a living. He followed an old script to perfection this spring, continuing on an upward trajectory that landed him in first place in the javelin at the Central Mass. Championships. Fiore’s top throw of 167 feet, 9 inches bettered the field by nearly four feet, although it was well off the spectacular 174-1 he produced earlier in the year while breaking the school record held by his brother, Sam. The 5-foot-10, 190-pound Fiore took first in the javelin and third in the 200 as the Sammies won their first CMass Class C title, which he considers his most memorable sports moment. When not competing in athletics, Fiore enjoys participating in trivia contests and, of course, watching movies. He is the son of Cindy and Joe Fiore of Sutton.

t was hard not to notice the Mohawk-coiffed Fitzpatrick-Rys when he stepped to the starting line for the 400 meters. It also was difficult to overlook the super sophomore at the finish as he typically was first across the line. Fitzpatrick-Rys, already a three-time Mid-Wach D champion, won his signature event at the Central Mass. Class C meet for a second straight year, then took top honors at the CMass Championships in 50.37 seconds, edging Leominster’s Nick DelGiudice by .21 seconds. Fitzpatrick-Rys, who also anchored the Blue Devils to a fifth-place finish in the 1,600 relay at the CMass meet, considers that blink-of-an-eye 400 victory to be his most memorable sports moment. He is the son of Kelly Fitzpatrick of Winchendon and Michael Rys of Nashua, N.H.

ones completed his breakout year, one in which he also was named to T&G Super Teams in cross-country and indoor track, with an unforgettable outdoor campaign. He won the mile handily at the Central Mass. Championships, his time of 4 minutes, 20.87 seconds good for a meet record by half a second. That was followed by his stirring victory at the state meet in which he came from behind and then held off favored John Gregorek of Seekonk on the final lap. His 4:14.54 clocking lowered his school record and completed an undefeated season against in-state competition. Jones’ successful spring concluded with a 21st-place finish at the Nike Outdoor Nationals in Greensboro, N.C. He is the son of Regina and Bruce Jones of Westboro.

he 2-mile is a long race, but the short of it is that no one displayed a better finishing kick than Horowitz. He went from fourth to first on the final lap at the Central Mass. Championships, breaking a 23-year-old meet record with his time of 9 minutes, 21.42 seconds. A week later, Horowitz repeated the fourth-to-first, finallap feat to take the state title, lowering his personal best to 9:16.90. He wrapped things up by placing sixth in the 3,200 and fourth in the 3,200 relay at the New Englands. All in all, it was a terrific year as Horowitz helped the Chieftains win a second straight CMass Division 1 title in cross-country, retain their Division 3 state title in indoor track, and bring home the CMass crown on the outdoor circuit. egee returned at just the right time from an ankle injury that had sidelined him for the postseason, sparking the Chieftains to the team title at the Central Mass. Championships. The 6-foot-2, 175-pound senior scored a convincing win in the 110 hurdles with his time of 15.43 seconds, and helped the 400 relay team to third place. Megee, who will attend UMass, wrapped up a fine scholastic career by placing seventh in the 110 hurdles in 15.44 seconds at the state meet. He also played football for four years, was a T&G Super Team member in indoor track this winter, and was named Nashoba’s Male Athlete of the Year. Megee considers back-to-back Division 3 state team titles in indoor track to be his most memorable sports moment. He is the son of Lori and Jim Megee of Stow.

ayton wrapped up a stellar career for the Red Raiders by claiming three gold medals and the Johnny Wallace Award as the most outstanding male athlete at the Central Mass. Championships. The senior won the 100 (11.28 seconds) and the long jump (22 feet, 13⁄4 inches) before anchoring the 400 relay team to victory in a school-record 44.08 seconds. Payton, a team MVP and Mid-Wach A All-Star in indoor and outdoor track, considers winning the Wallace Award to be his most memorable sports moment. He lists playing guitar, snowboarding and swimming among his hobbies. Payton plans to attend Mount Wachusett Community College, but is hoping to find a place on the UMass-Lowell track team. He is the son of Brenda Payton and Bryan James of Fitchburg.

Duy Truong s a sophomore, Truong typically would fall into the up-and-coming category. But he’s already on top. That was never more evident than at the Central Mass. Championships, where the Highlanders’ two-time captain handily won the 400 hurdles in 56.91 seconds and captured the triple jump with a personal best (by more than a foot) of 44 feet, 71⁄4 inches. Truong also ran the lead leg for the 400 relay team, which finished a close second and propelled Doherty to fourth in the team standings. Truong, who also plays football, enjoys computer games, building computers, and spending time with friends and family. His future goals include becoming an engineer and winning the Central Mass. Decathlon. He’s the son of Hue Tran of Worcester.

iscitelli knows a thing or two about defending titles. The 6-foot-2, 215-pound senior won the shot put at the last two Central Mass. Division 2 Indoor Track Championships, and made it two straight in the discus at the CMass outdoor meet. His winning throw of 161 feet, 10 inches bettered the competition, incredibly, by more than 20 feet. Piscitelli also took third in the shot put, helping the Woolies to a best-ever second-place finish. Piscitelli concluded a terrific high school career by placing second in the discus (166-7) at the state meet. Bound for the University of Rhode Island, Piscitelli lists Millbury winning the Central Mass. Class B title this year as his most memorable sports moment. of the Year Emily Jones Bromfield School Senior, 2-Mile o ridiculously good for so darn long — that will be the enduring legend of Jones’ high school athletic career. She earned the first of 13 T&G Super Team spots as a precocious eighth-grader, and she won the last of her 10 state titles as a polished senior, capturing the 2-mile in 10 minutes, 26.38 seconds in front of an appreciative and overflow crowd at Fitchburg State’s Elliott Field. There wasn’t another runner within 28 seconds of Jones, who fell three seconds shy of the 10-year-old meet record held by Olympic medalist and U.S. record-holder Shalene Flanagan of Marblehead. That’s a mark Jones dearly wanted, but you never would have known it afterward. Post-race displays of smiles, sportsmanship and graciousness came to define her as much as winning the races themselves. Jones’ final scholastic appearance occurred at the Nike Outdoor Nationals in Greensboro, N.C. This three-time recipient of a Gatorade Massachusetts Athlete of the Year Award finished third in the 2-mile in 10:20.62. That was the third fastest time in the country this year. Same goes for the 9:32.22 that Jones ran in the 3,000 at the famed Penn Relays in April. All of that contributed to her being named the Super Team’s Athlete of the Year. Now it’s off to Georgetown University, where the daughter of Susan Hunter-Jones and Dan Jones of Harvard hopes to add to her legend.

uperb and stupendous would best describe this sophomore’s super season. Clark captured the 100-meter hurdles in convincing fashion at the Central Mass. Championships, her time of 15.21 seconds breaking the 10-year-old meet record. She also placed sixth in the long jump with a personal best of 16 feet, 91⁄2 inches. Clark then recorded a ninth place in the 100 hurdles at the state meet for a second straight year before taking top honors in the event at the Central Mass. Pentathlon. As an encore, Clark helped the 23rd-seeded Bolton Track Club place 13th in the 800-meter sprint medley relay at the Nike Outdoor Nationals in Greensboro, N.C. It’s a performance she considers her most memorable sports moment. Emily is the daughter of Brenda and Kirk Clark of Stow.

eCarteret graduates with a track and field résumé matched by only a handful of athletes ever to come out of this area. The senior won the pole vault at the Central Mass. Championships for a second straight year, this time clearing a meet-record 11 feet, 6 inches. DeCarteret then three-peated at the state meet, topping 12-2 to finish 14 inches above the rest of the field. She closed out her scholastic career with a personal-best and meetrecord 12-3 to win the New Englands. DeCarteret considers that effort to be her most memorable sports moment. Success followed her off the field, too. A member of Student Government, DeCarteret was class co-valedictorian and received partial academic and athletic scholarships to Northeastern University. ke, one of five underclassmen named to the T&G Super Team, completed the triple-jump triple crown. She was a repeat winner at the Central Mass. Championships, breaking her own meet record with a leap of 39 feet, then won her first state title a week later, her 39-3 effort outclassing the competition by 2 feet. Eke put the finishing touches on a brilliant outdoor season by jumping 39-6 to win the New Englands. Package them all together and you’ve got her most memorable sports moments. Success in the triple jump is nothing new to Eke, who finished fourth in the state as an eighth-grader and second as a freshman. Eke, a sophomore who also enjoys dancing, art and music, aspires to be the top-ranked U.S. scholastic triple jumper by her senior year. She’s the daughter of Joyce and Kevin Smith of Worcester.

hree seasons of running her junior year, three T&G Super Team selections. It doesn’t get better than that. Ellis, who won Central Mass. Division 1 titles in cross country and indoor track, added to her haul by capturing the outdoor mile at the Central Mass. Championships in 5 minutes, 11.12 seconds. She lowered her personal-best time to 5:03.26 for eighth place at the state meet before concluding a terrific campaign with a 15th-place finish in the emerging elite division of the mile at the Nike Outdoor Nationals in Greensboro, N.C. Ellis considers attending that prestigious event, along with helping the Wildcats qualify for the state cross country championships in 2007, to be her most memorable sports moments. She is the daughter of Lisa and Michael Ellis of Gardner.

Andrea Fanciullo North Middlesex Regional Freshman, Long Jump anciullo was a cheerleader in the fall and winter, but come spring, she was the one receiving cheers for her top-flight performances in track and field. The talented freshman entered the Central Mass. Championships seeded fifth in the long jump and left in first place. Fanciullo unleashed a personal best of 17 feet, 53⁄4 inches to nip defending champion Katherine Finnegan of Bromfield School by three-quarters of an inch. She considers that her most memorable sports moment, though that’s likely to be amended in the years to come. Fanciullo, who lists playing basketball and running as hobbies, also placed seventh in the 100 hurdles (17.45 seconds) at the CMass meet. She is the daughter of Kristy McDonald and Joe Fanciullo of Townsend.

aneczak won two Central Mass. titles and a state championship in the 100 meters in her first two years of outdoor track before moving to the 200 meters this spring. It was a seamless transition. The six-time T&G Super Team member breezed to victory at the Central Mass. Championships in a meetrecord 25.17 seconds and anchored the Highlanders to victory in the 400-meter relay for a third straight year. For all that, she was honored as the meet’s outstanding female performer. Janeczak won the state meet in 24.80, just off her personal best of 24.62, to finish undefeated against in-state competition before taking fifth at the New Englands. That string of relay wins and capturing the 200 state title were Janeczak’s most memorable sports moments. She’s the daughter of Annmarie Finne and Derek Janeczak of Worcester.

rumpoch was the top 300-meter hurdler in the area last year. The race was lengthened by 100 meters this spring, but that didn’t deter this talented athlete. She hurdled her way through the extended 400-meter distance in 63.61 seconds to score a runaway victory at the Central Mass. Championships. Her title haul also included the Mid-Wach A and CMass Class A meets. Krumpoch posted a season-best time of 63.05 at the state meet while taking second. Turning back the clock, she concluded her season by placing 10th in the 300 hurdles at the New Englands. Despite all of that individual success, Krumpoch lists her most memorable sports moment as setting the school record in the 400-meter relay with teammates Alma Dwumfour, Kim Paul and Rachel Pineda. Megan is the daughter of Tammy and Mark Krumpoch of Shrewsbury.

aird earned her second T&G Super Team berth this year after capturing the high jump with a leap of 5 feet, 6 inches at the Central Mass. Championships. She followed up that performance with a tie for third place (5-4) at the state meet and a sixth-place finish (5-3) at the New England championships. Laird considers qualifying for the New Englands in both indoor and outdoor track to be her most memorable sports achivement. Undefeated in dual meets on the winter and spring circuits, Laird already owns the school record in her specialty event. She is a two-time Mid-Wach A All-Star and is following in the footsteps of her parents, both of whom competed in the high jump in high school. Laird enjoys going to the beach and spending time with friends. She is the daughter of Cynthia and Andrew Laird of Southboro.

ahan displayed a nice finishing touch to a fine high school career, one that saw her shine in three sports. She won the discus at the Central Mass. Championships (112 feet, 6 inches), a meet where she finished ninth the previous year, before placing sixth at the state meet with a school-record toss of 118-3, and 14th at the New England championships. Mahan was a two-year captain and four-time Mid-Wach B All-Star in track. She considers breaking what was then the school record in the discus as a sophomore — a mark that stood since 1978 — to be her most memorable sports moment. A league all-star in volleyball and basketball as well, Mahan helped the Crusaders reach the CMass Division 2 basketball final the last three years. She is headed to Bryant University to study business and communication. She’s the daughter of Diane and Tim Mahan of Groton.

Maliska was more than happy to fill the void, scoring a comfortable victory with a throw of 115 feet, 9 inches. She was equally impressive at the state meet, taking ninth after uncorking a personal best of 117-2. In addition to competing in indoor and outdoor track, Maliska captained the Blue Devils’ field hockey team last fall while being named a Mid-Wach D All-Star for a second time. Her hobbies include running, softball, and off-the-field pursuits such as reading, baking and being with friends. Maliska aspires to study architectural engineering in college. She is the daughter of Penny and John Maliska of Winchendon.

o senior slump here. Orrell was victorious in the shot put at the Central Mass. Championships for a third consecutive year, this time with a throw of 39 feet, 83⁄4 inches. She was also runner-up in the discus (109 feet) after finishing fourth the previous two years. Orrell, who holds the school record in both throwing events, entered the state meet as the two-time defending champion in the shot put and turned in a strong performance (41-8-1⁄2) despite settling for second place. She also distinguished herself in volleyball, being named to the T&G Super Team last fall, and in basketball, where the 5-foot-11 center helped the Woolies win three CMass Division 2 championships and advance to the state final the past two years. Orrell plans to study mechanical engineering and biomedical engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. She’s the daughter of Phyllis and Gary Orrell of Millbury.

yan made a long-term commitment to track, and all that time and effort paid handsome dividends. She was honored with the indoor track team’s Most Improved award as a freshman. As a senior, Ryan was named the Patriots’ MVP on both the indoor and outdoor circuits. She finished seventh in the 100 meters at the Central Mass. Championships as a sophomore, and was second last year before winning it all in her final go-round this spring with a time of 12.85 seconds. Ryan applied the finishing touches by taking seventh place at the state meet in 12.80 and 15th at the New Englands (12.89). Ryan, who is headed to Worcester State College and hopes to become a nurse, lists going undefeated in dual meets this past winter and spring as her most memorable sports achievement. She is the daughter of Sandra and William Ryan of Townsend.

ade’s name should come up early in any conversation involving versatile athletes. She competed in cross country, volleyball, indoor track, basketball and outdoor track, earning a total of 10 letters. She also made her second straight T&G Super Team after winning the 400 meters in a school-record time of 58.41 seconds at the Central Mass. Championships. Wade finished eighth at the state meet before concluding her scholastic career with her most memorable sports moment — teaming up with Amanda Abraham, Aubrie Vannasse and Emily Clark to place 13th in the 800-meter sprint medley relay at the Nike Outdoor Nationals in Greensboro, N.C. The recipient of Nashoba’s Female Student-Athlete of the Year award, Wade will major in government and environmental studies at Bowdoin College. She is the daughter of Kathy and Jim Wade of Bolton.

ew have made a more positive first impression than Williamson. After a dominant dual-meet season, the freshman phenom won the 800 meters at the Central Mass. Championships in 2 minutes, 17.25 seconds, and ran the leadoff leg as the Mountaineers captured the 1,600-meter relay in a meet-record time of 4:00.57, erasing the mark established by another Wachusett foursome in 2000. The state meet saw Williamson finish fifth in the 800 (2:15.25) and help the 1,600 relay team place second (in a school-record 3:56.54), which she considers her most memorable sports moment. Williamson wrapped things up by finishing fourth in the 800 at the New Englands, lowering her school record to 2:13.64. Also a T&G Super Teamer in cross country, Williamson enjoys spending time with friends and playing soccer. She’s the daughter of Jerilyn and Robert Williamson of Princeton.

of the Year Dan Kemp Tantasqua Regional Senior, Shortstop t was a whirlwind spring for Kemp, the 6-foot-3 shortstop who batted .472 with six home runs, 20 RBIs and 14 stolen bases for the Warriors. Kemp’s hard work paid off as he was selected by the Red Sox in the 24th round of the first-year player draft, which he considers his most memorable sports moment. Kemp currently is weighing his options; he has a full scholarship to play for Franklin Pierce University next year. Kemp was a clear choice as the Telegram & Gazette baseball Player of the Year, helping the Warriors to a 13-9 record, their season ending with a loss to Wachusett in a Division 1 quarterfinal. Kemp’s stellar high school career also included playing for Tantasqua’s Division 2 state champion basketball team in 2007, and making the T&G Super Team in that sport last winter. Kemp smashed a walk-off, three-run homer against Shrewsbury High in the first game of the postseason, then followed it with an impressive performance in a predraft workout at Fenway Park, launching several balls over the Green Monster. Kemp was a SWCL All-Star four times in baseball and three times in basketball. He’s the son of Dorothy and Douglas Kemp of Sturbridge.

nly a sophomore, Beede emerged as one of the top pitchers in Central Mass. this year, helping the Rockets to the Division 2 state title. Beede went 7-1 with an 0.88 ERA and struck out 114 in just 561⁄3 innings. Beede was unbeaten in three playoff appearances and is 12-1 with 169 strikeouts in 92 career innings at Auburn. He was named to the Rawlings Underclassmen All-America preseason team and was invited to play in the 2011 All-America game at the University of Southern California in August. Beede was a key part of Auburn’s run to last year’s state final, and has been a standout wide receiver for the Rockets, helping them to a Division 2 Super Bowl title in the fall. Beede feels the two championships were his most memorable sports moments. His father, Walter, is a former Telegram & Gazette All-Star and was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in 1981. Tyler is the son of Walter Beede and Cheryl and Andy Rivers of Auburn.

two-time Central Mass. All-Star, Derosier makes his first appearance on the Telegram & Gazette Super Team after leading the Naps with a .414 average, two home runs and 36 RBIs. Derosier helped Holy Name to a 16-5 record and the Central Mass. Conference championship. Just a junior, he was named a captain by coach Dan McGowan. Derosier is also a standout football player who has helped the Naps to a pair of Super Bowl titles in his three years, and he cited this year’s win over Westfield as his most memorable sports moment. Derosier’s brother, Wally, was a former Super Teamer in football and track and now plays baseball at Assumption College. Their father, Walter III, was an All-New England baseball player at Worcester State. Derosier is hoping for a career in public relations. He is the son of Kelley and Walter Derosier of Worcester.

four-year starter for coach Matt Gull, DiMarzio capped a remarkable season by helping the Mountaineers to the CMass Division 1 final. One of the top leadoff men around, DiMarzio hit .506 for Wachusett and was named MVP of his team and the Mid-Wach A. DiMarzio also locked up spots on the Central Mass. and state all-star teams. He had quite a last day as a Mountaineer, graduating in the afternoon and then playing at night in an epic 11-inning district final against St. John’s, which he regards as his most memorable sports moment. He also enjoys Italian culture and hopes to live and work in Italy someday — perhaps even playing professional baseball there. He will attend UMass-Boston in the fall. He’s the son of Denise and David DiMarzio of Holden’s Jefferson section.

two-time captain and Mid-Wach A All-Star, the 6-foot-1, 195-pound Henningson batted .452 with eight home runs and 28 RBIs for Algonquin and helped the Tomahawks to a 16-5 record. A four-year varsity starter behind the plate for coach Neil Burke, Henningson finished his career with 102 hits. He said his most memorable sports moment was going 2 for 3 with a double and three RBIs to help Algonquin capture the 2006 Division 1 state title. Also an all-star in football for the Tomahawks, Henningson will attend Northeastern University in the fall. His uncle, Ivar Henningson, played football at Algonquin and Middlebury College. repeat selection to the Telegram & Gazette Super Team, Keddy picked up where he left off last season by leading the Colonial Athletic League with a .526 average and going 5-1 with a 2.21 ERA to earn his second straight league MVP award. Keddy helped the Eagles to a 19-3 record and a spot in the Central Mass. Division 2 semifinals for the second straight season. As a junior, Keddy hit .506 with 40 RBIs and went 9-0 with a 2.65 ERA. He was also a top defenseman on Worcester’s hockey team, and his brother, Ryan, is a former T&G hockey Super Teamer. His cousin, John Genkos, was a basketball Super Teamer from Doherty High. The Assumption College-bound Keddy was a co-captain of the Tech football team and has made the league all-star team in each sport every year since he was a sophomore. aCroix completed a stellar senior season by leading Grafton to the Central Mass. Division 2 final. The senior was a two-way threat, hitting .446 with four home runs, 25 RBIs, 25 runs and an .800 slugging percentage, and also going 6-1 with an 0.82 ERA, 63 strikeouts and just five walks on the mound. LaCroix tossed a nohitter against Oxford. Grafton was the only team to defeat Division 2 state champion Auburn High this year, doing it twice to earn a split of the SWCL East title. LaCroix was named to the Central Mass. AllStar team in addition to his selection to the SWCL East All-Star squad. LaCroix also was a Super Teamer in football at running back, but will attend Franklin Pierce University in the fall to play baseball. The 6-foot, 180-pounder enjoys fishing in his spare time. He’s the son of Christine and Louis LaCroix of Grafton.

antoni capped a spectacular career for the Blue Raiders, leading Hopedale to the Central Mass. Division 3 final while earning Dual Valley Conference Player of the Year honors after batting a staggering .705 to lead Central Mass. He also slugged six home runs and drove in 47 runs. Mantoni went 2-0 with a 1.31 ERA on the mound as the Blue Raiders finished 19-4. As a junior, Mantoni helped Hopedale to the 2008 district Division 3 title, which he regards as his most memorable sports moment. Mantoni was named to the Central Mass. All-Star team, to the DVC All-Star squad the past two years, and was a SWCL All-Star as a freshman while attending Northbridge High. Mantoni will pitch for Merrimack next year while pursuing a degree in business. He is the son of Theresa and John Mantoni of Northbridge.

ilewski makes his second consecutive appearance on the T&G Super Team after compiling a 10-1 record and earning Mid-Wach D co-MVP honors as West Boylston reached the Division 3 state final — a feat he considers his most memorable sports moment. Milewski was named to the Central Mass. and state all-star teams this year and is a four-time Mid-Wach D All-Star. He batted .478 as the Lions finished 24-1. Milewski also was a standout golfer and basketball player at West Boylston, earning three league all-star nods in golf. Milewski enjoys playing guitar, fishing, and hanging out with friends. He will attend the University of South Carolina at Aiken in the fall and hopes to play baseball professionally someday. His father, John, played Division 1 ball for Western Carolina University. Ryan is the son of Peggy and John Milewski of West Boylston.

Morissette was named Leominster’s most improved player as a junior after pitching the Blue Devils into the Central Mass. Division 1 championship game. Morissette, the team captain for coach Emile Johnson, hurled a shutout in his final high school game, which he considers his most memorable sports moment. He enjoys hanging out with friends in his spare time. Morissette will attend Quinsigamond Community College in the fall. He’ll spend the summer pitching for the Leominster American Legion team as one of Post 151’s top hurlers. He is the son of Gary and Donna Morissette of Leominster.

he 6-foot, 210-pound Quinn helped turn the Pioneers into one of the hottest teams in the postseason, as St. John’s entered the playoffs with a 12-10 record, yet went all the way to the state final in Division 1. Quinn led the Central Mass. Conference with a .481 average and added seven home runs for coach Charlie Eppinger. He blasted a pair of grand slams during the Pioneers’ amazing postseason run, including a winning shot to right field in the 12th inning to defeat Westboro High, which he considers to be his most memorable sports moment. Quinn hopes to play baseball in college and enjoys playing golf, other sports and hanging out with friends in his spare time. He is the son of Jennifer and John Quinn of Sutton.

He helped Westboro to a remarkable postseason run, as the Rangers reached the CMass Division 1 semifinals before losing in 12 innings to eventual champion St. John’s. Whitten helped Westboro get past Algonquin by hitting two home runs, which he considers his most memorable sports moment. Whitten captained the Rangers’ soccer team last fall and also played basketball. He enjoys skiing, hiking, swimming and biking in his spare time. Whitten will attend the University of Maine in the fall, and hopes to play pro baseball or become an engineer. He’s the son of Susan and Fran Whitten of Westboro.

of the Year Julia Barrett Gardner High Junior, Pitcher n her first season as a starter, the 5-foot-8 Barrett emerged as the most dominating pitcher in Central Mass., leading the Wildcats to a 21-5 record and their third straight appearance in the Division 1 state final. She hurled a perfect game with 15 strikeouts in a Central Mass. semifinal victory over topseeded Milford High, then pitched a one-hitter in the state semifinals. She led all pitchers in Central Mass. with a 0.20 ERA and had 264 strikeouts on the season, including 24 in a 10-inning game. Barrett baffles batters with an arsenal of six different pitches. This was her third year on coach Howie Klash’s Gardner varsity, but she sat behind Elyssa Boris, who is now at UMass-Lowell, her first two seasons. The 16-year-old Barrett enjoys watching movies when she isn’t playing softball, and lists winning a Little League state championship in 2003 as her most memorable sports moment. The daughter of Scott and Janice Barrett of Gardner, Julia is undecided about college, but would like to study business.

oach Howie Klash called Boris’ home run the key hit in an 8-0 victory over top-seeded Milford High in the Central Mass. Division 1 semifinals at Worcester State College. Boris called it her most memorable sports moment. She had a lot of those in a season in which she hit .580 and helped the Wildcats reach the state final for the third straight year. The 5-foot-7 second baseman also hit three homers in an opening-round victory over Fitchburg. A three-year member of the varsity in softball, she also excels in field hockey. She is the younger sister of Elyssa Boris, a former star pitcher at Gardner who is now at UMass-Lowell. They are the daughters of Jayne and Chuck Boris of Gardner.

ryant leaves the Panthers as one of top hitters in school history with career totals of 129 hits, 81 RBIs and 98 runs. The 5-foot-6 shortstop, making her second appearance on the T&G Super Team, hit .484 with a .548 on-base percentage this season. Bryant showed impressive power as well this year, slugging a pair of homers in a win over Doherty, and two more in a 4-1 victory over archrival Hudson, which she considers her most memorable sports moment. She is a four-time MidWach B All-Star and was the league MVP this year. Bryant has also been a league all-star in soccer and basketball. The daughter of Denise Rudzinsky and Tom Bryant, she is headed to Providence College in the fall and hopes to become a physical therapist.

he Naps won 16 of 17 games after losing their opener, and this sophomore third baseman was a big reason for that run. DiPilato was a potent force in the middle of coach Jill Shea’s lineup, batting .566 to lead the Central Mass. Conference for the second straight season. DiPilato helped lead Holy Name to the semifinals of the Central Mass. tournament before losing to Nashoba Regional. DiPilato hit .550 last year after breaking in as a starter and compiled a .485 average — third best in the CMC — as an eighth-grader. She considers that feat to be her most memorable sports moment. The 16-year-old enjoys traveling and playing softball in the summer with the Firecracker Brats under-18 squad. Jessica’s cousin, Dan DiPilato, played baseball for Worcester Tech. She is the daughter of Tina and John DiPilato of Worcester.

alley was a two-way threat on the diamond and a two-sport star for the Naps, excelling in softball and field hockey. Though just 5-foot-2, she had a 16-3 record and a 1.24 ERA this season, batting .418. Her career record was 66-14, and she was a Central Mass. Conference All-Star the last four years. She was Holy Name’s captain the last two years, and was a captain and two-time CMC All-Star in field hockey. Halley won the Joseph Walsh Memorial Scholarship Award and the District E Athletic Directors Award for field hockey and softball. She enjoys photography and called winning the All-American Tournament with the Charlton Wildfire in Lowell last year her most memorable sports moment. The daughter of Mary and Larry Halley Jr., she is headed to Springfield College, where she plans to major in exercise science.

Cristy Jenkins Hudson High Senior, First Base

eople might not know that Jenkins loves to sing, but by now everyone should realize that she loves to win. She did a lot of that as the Hawks reached the Division 2 state final each of the last four years. Hudson won the title in 2007 and Jenkins, who had a key hit in the 2-1 final victory over North Andover, called the triumph her most memorable sports moment. The 5-foot-3 first baseman was the Mid-Wach C’s MVP this season as the Hawks finished 18-7. She has been a league all-star each of the last four years. Jenkins batted .434 this season, fourth best in Mid-Wach C. The daughter of Margaret and William Jenkins of Hudson, Cristy will go to Southern New Hampshire University in the fall to major in special education.

aCroix aspires to be an atmospheric scientist, and after hitting a Central Mass.-best .612 this year, her batting average is already in the stratosphere. The 17-year-old shortstop goes into her senior season needing about 10 more hits to become the Bulldogs’ career leader. She helped lead coach David Reid’s squad to the Division 3 state final this season before losing to St. Mary’s of Lynn. But it was a tournament game two years ago as a freshman when LaCroix pitched 12 innings against Narragansett that provided her most memorable sports moment. LaCroix was a team captain this year and has been offensive MVP the last two seasons. She was Rookie of the Year as a freshman. A National Honor Society member, LaCroix is second in her class. She enjoys music, playing the piano and Facebook. The daughter of Doreen LaCroix of Hubbardson, she is undecided about college.

oach Brian Mattei called his senior shortstop the best player in Central Mass. this spring, and who’s to argue? The four-year starter batted .533 this season, helping the Panthers to a 16-4 record and earning a spot on the T&G Super Team. She has been a Southern Worcester County League All-Star each of the last three seasons. Lamoureux had the winning hit in a 14-inning tournament victory over Uxbridge as a sophomore, and she considers that her most memorable sports moment. The 5-foot-2 senior was also a two-time SWCL All-Star in soccer and basketball. She scored a team-high 14 goals in soccer this year and led Prouty by averaging 13 points a game in basketball. The daughter of Lisa and Richard Lamoureux of East Brookfield, Aimee plans to play softball at Franklin Pierce next year, and hopes to someday work in business.

Martinek led Mid-Wach B with a .583 batting average and set a school record for hits in a season with 51. She had Nashoba’s only hit off Gardner’s Julia Barrett in the Central Mass. final. Already selected as captain for next year’s team, Martinek has 117 career hits and has been a league all-star each of the last three seasons. Martinek lists smashing home runs in three consecutive at-bats in 2008 against Gardner as her most memorable sports achivement. She also plays soccer and basketball at Nashoba, and enjoys playing sports and being with friends. The daughter of Laurie and Robert Martinek of Bolton, Stefanie is undecided about college, but someday hopes to become a business executive.

ne of the more prolific performers to play for the Indians, Mask departs Grafton High as the career leader in stolen bases, hits in a season (44), career batting average (.501) and runs in one season (36). A co-captain for the last two seasons, Mask led the SWCL East with a .559 batting average as the Indians advanced to the Central Mass. Division 2 semifinals before falling to eventual state champ Hudson. Mask has been named to the T&G Division 2 team the past three years, and will play softball for Boston University next year. Mask will study to become a medical examiner while in college. Her most memorable sports moment came before this year’s opener against Shepherd Hill when Mask and fellow captain Amanda Massad realized it was the start of their last year of high school softball together. Jayme is the daughter of Alice and James Mask of Grafton.

softball team needs to be strong up the middle, and that’s where the versatile Murray played while leading the Mid-Wach A with a .589 batting average. The Red Raiders’ captain was a catcher, shortstop and center fielder, and played well enough at each spot to make the T&G Super Team for the second straight season. She also was a Mid-Wach A and Sentinel & Enterprise All-Star each of the last four years, winning the Fitchburg newspaper’s Emile Johnson Award this season. She also was captain and a Central Mass. All-Star in field hockey this year. The 5-foot-4 Murray called qualifying for the Central Mass. tournament for the second straight year her most memorable sports moment. Her brother, Anthony, was a standout football player at Fitchburg High and Saint Anselm College. She’s the daughter of Kathryn and John Murray of Fitchburg, and will attend Bryant University in the fall.

Softball was her best sport, though. She hit .400 this year and was a SWCL All-Star for the third straight year. The four-year shortstop was a captain this season and won Shepherd Hill’s James Herrion Memorial Sportsmanship Award. The 5-foot-8 Nadow said playing in the Central Mass. final in softball as a freshman and sophomore were her most memorable sports moments. Her ERA was second best in the Mid-Wach A, her batting average fifth best. That performance made her the league and team MVP. The Scarlet Hawks were undefeated in the league for the second straight year, and she considers that her most memorable sports achievement. Smith also was a Mid-Wach A All-Star as a freshman and sophomore. She also has run cross country and was named Most Dedicated as a sophomore and Most Improved as a freshman. The 5-foot-5 Smith enjoys music and hopes someday to be either an accountant or an actuary. The daughter of Jean and Shawn Smith of Milford, she is undecided about college.

of the Year Colin O’Rourke St. John’s High Senior, Attack he senior and two-time AllAmerican was one of the most productive lacrosse players ever to come out of Central Mass., and this year led coach Rob Vigeant’s Pioneers to the Division 2 state final. Despite breaking his right leg in the same spot two years in a row, O’Rourke became just the third player in Central Mass. history to collect 300 career points. The school’s all-time leading scorer had 93 goals and 37 assists for 130 points this season, finishing his career with 205-141-346 totals. In just five 2009 tournament games, he had 21 goals and nine assists for St. John’s, which finished 19-4. A twotime lacrosse All-American, O’Rourke is making his third appearance on the T&G Super Team after receiving honorable mention last season in football, where he was a standout defensive back and co-MVP of Division 1 North. He played on the Worcester Vikings Pop Warner football team that won a New England championship in 2004, which he lists as his most memorable sports moment. His brother, Ryan, plays baseball at Merrimack College. Colin plans to play lacrosse at Wagner College, and hopes to become a police officer. The National Honor Society scholar is the son of Pamela and David O’Rourke of Worcester.

he 6-foot-1, 150-pound Cassidy finished his high school career in fine fashion, leading the Rams to the Central Mass. Division 2 semifinals and a share of the Mid-Mass. League title. Cassidy, the captain, collected 60 goals, 35 assists and 95 points for coach Steve Falconer. In Northbridge’s second game, his goal with 1:30 left gave the Rams a 5-4 win over Leominster, and his winning goal in a game against Grafton goes down as his most memorable sports moment. Cassidy, who also enjoys skateboarding and snowboarding, was a contributing member of the varsity for the last four years, and played varsity football as a junior when Northbridge captured a Super Bowl championship. The son of Sheree and Sean Cassidy of Northbridge, Ryan is headed to UMass-Boston, where he hopes to pursue a bachelor’s degree in environmental science.

He also lifted the Trojans to the Mid-Wach B title and a spot in the Central Mass. Division 2 quarterfinals under his father, coach Joe Gatto. The junior captain completed his second season with the Bromfield varsity, and also played for the Trojans’ Division 3 state championship soccer team last fall. Gatto sparked his Bay State Games lacrosse team to a gold medal last summer while leading the squad in scoring. He enjoys snowboarding and coaching youth lacrosse. His goal is to land a spot on a Division 1 college lacrosse team. The honor roll student is the son of Trish and Joseph Gatto of Harvard.

t 6-foot-2 and 185 pounds, Hart emerged as an offensive force under coach Rich Luongo, finishing second in the Mid-Wach A scoring race with 45 goals and 28 assists while sparking the Tomahawks to a 16-2 regular-season record, including a perfect 10-0 run through the league. Hart was the team’s offensive MVP the past two seasons after being named winner of the Unsung Hero award as a sophomore. He turned in two fine seasons with the Algonquin cross-country team, earning the squad’s Most Improved Player award as a junior and the Coaches Award as a senior. His father played lacrosse at Union College, where his mother was on the field hockey team. Hart is headed to Lehigh University, with the hopes of becoming an environmental engineer. He’s the son of Nancy and Charles Hart of Northboro.

Lesnikowski contributed 16 goals and six assists as the Tomahawks rolled up a 16-2 regular-season record (10-0 in Mid-Wach A). He also came up with 130 ground balls for coach Rich Luongo. As a junior, Lesnikowski was a two-way starter for the football team, but missed his senior season with a shoulder injury. Lesnikowski, who enjoys fishing and traveling, will move on to Assumption College in the fall. He’s the son of Julie and Richard Lesnikowski of Northboro.

O

ver the last three seasons, McKenna developed into one of the top lacrosse defenders in Central Mass. under Wachusett coach Phil Jackson. A senior captain, McKenna won Mid-Wach A All-Star honors and played in the Central Mass. All-Star game at season’s end. The 5-foot-10, 170-pounder was a two-year captain for the hockey team, leading the Mountaineers to a thrilling 17-3-2 season and the top seed in the Central Mass. Division 3 playoffs. McKenna played three seasons of varsity lacrosse, four varsity years in hockey. His greatest thrill in sports was playing on a hockey team that won a Can-Am tournament in Lake Placid, N.Y., when he was in the fourth grade. His parents, Linda and Bill, were both varsity athletes at Wachusett. The Rutland resident is headed to Boston College in the fall.

inning the Central Mass. Division 2 title was Mitchell’s most memorable sports moment, and he played a major role from the midfield in steering the Pioneers to their remarkable season, which wound up with an appearance in the state final — the first Central Mass. team to do that. As a captain under coach Rob Vigeant, Mitchell had 35 goals and 34 assists for 69 points, good for fourth in the Catholic Conference, and collected 107 ground balls. Mitchell, who was named to the Catholic Conference All-Star team, led St. John’s to a 19-4 record, 6-0 in the conference to win the title. The three-year letterman also played two seasons of varsity football. Mitchell will move on to St. Mary’s College of Maryland, where he’ll pursue a career in medicine. He’s the son of Andrea and Al Mitchell of Shrewsbury.

T&G Super Teamer last year, Padro leaves behind some impressive numbers following a remarkable career for the Rams. In his senior lacrosse season under coach Steve Falconer, he finished with 43 goals and 70 assists for 113 points, finishing 1-2 with teammate Ryan Cassidy (also a Super Teamer) in the Mid-Mass. League scoring race. Padro had 129 goals and 141 assists for 270 career points and was named an All-American this year. He set school records for most assists in a game, season and career, most points in a season, and most ground balls in a season and career. Over the last two seasons as a receiver in football, Padro totaled 115 catches, 65 of them for 417 yards as a junior when Northbridge captured a Super Bowl title. Padro, a senior captain in both sports, plans to play lacrosse at Mount Ida College. The Northbridge resident is the son of Edna Quiles.

apoojian’s prowess on defense helped the Pioneers reach the Division 2 state final, a first for a Central Mass. team after dominating Western Mass. champion South Hadley, 15-1, in the semifinals. This is Papoojian’s second berth on a T&G Super Team — he was named to the football squad last fall as a 6-foot-2, 195-pound middle linebacker after helping St. John’s post a 9-2 record. Under lacrosse coach Rob Vigeant, the All-American was named a Central Mass. Conference All-Star for the third time, and received his school’s coveted Pioneer Award. Papoojian, who enjoys playing the guitar, will attend Virginia Military Institute in the fall, and hopes to enlist in the Navy and someday work in international relations. He’s the son of Diane and Phil Papoojian of Worcester.

owers followed up playing for the Colonials in the Division 3 state hockey final with a stellar performance this spring, becoming Shrewsbury’s first lacrosse All-American. The 5-foot-8, 180-pounder finished with 207 career goals for coach Nate Skermont and was the MidWach A’s co-MVP this season. He led the league in scoring with 60 goals, 22 assists and 82 points. A four-year starter, Powers scored 38 goals in the first 10 games this season, including seven in a victory over St. PeterMarian High. He led Shrewsbury to a 15-1 victory over Assabet Regional in the first round of the Central Mass. Division 2 playoffs before the Colonials were eliminated by eventual champion St. John’s. Powers will attend Roger Williams University in Bristol, R.I. He’s the son of Noreen and Michael Powers of Shrewsbury.

n his first game as a freshman for the Indians, Rotatori scored the winning goal with a minute left to beat St. Peter-Marian, and he has continued to shine. While leading his team to a share of the Mid-Mass. League title under his father and coach, Alan Rotatori, Dan became the first Grafton player to score 100 points in a season. The league scoring champ finished with 69 goals and 44 assists for 113 points, scooped 214 ground balls, and won 66 percent of his faceoffs. The captain may be only 5-foot-4 and 140 pounds, but he’ll enter his senior season with 244 career points. He is a two-time Southern Worcester County League East All-Star in soccer. Rotatori’s father starred at UMass and played pro lacrosse for the Boston Blazers. Dan is the son of Nancy and Alan Rotatori of Grafton.

he 6-foot-1, 175-pound Vulcano was co-MVP of the Mid-Wach A after leading the Tomahawks on a 10-0 run through the league and all the way to the Central Mass. Division 2 final, where they were edged by St. John’s, 8-6. The All-American and captain is making his second appearance on the T&G Super Team after finishing fourth in MidWach A scoring with 40 goals and 36 assists under coach Rich Luongo. In football, Vulcano was a captain and a league all-star, passing for five touchdowns in a 43-36 comeback victory over Gardner High on Senior Night last November, his most memorable sports moment. His sister, Lauren, was a lacrosse Super Team member in 2007. Vulcano will prep at Cushing Academy next year with the hopes of earning a college scholarship. He is the son of Michele and Michael Vulcano of Northboro.

enevitch emerged as one of the top goaltenders in Central Mass., leading the Guardians into the postseason with a 13-5 record and a save percentage of .700, tops in the Catholic Conference. Zenevitch has played three years for coach Vincent Jacques and served as captain this season. He was named to the Central Mass. Conference All-Star team as St. Peter-Marian reached the Division 2 district quarterfinals before losing in overtime to Grafton High, 7-6. Dan’s father was a former golfer at UMass, and his mother was a standout field hockey and softball player at St. Peter-Marian. Zenevitch will serve as a co-captain for the Guardians’ football team in the fall. The son of Mark and Sharon Zenevitch of Worcester, Dan hopes eventually to play college lacrosse.

of the Year Kayla Volpe Westboro High Senior, Attack ith five sophomores and two freshmen in the starting lineup, Rangers coach Colleen Debish relied on Volpe for senior leadership, and the twotime Super Teamer — and T&G Player of the Year this season — came through in a big way. She scored 53 goals with 22 assists in the regular season, then led the Rangers to their second straight Central Mass. title and third in four years. Westboro was eliminated by Longmeadow in the state semifinals, but made a strong comeback in the second half led by Volpe, who finished with a hat trick. Volpe scored four goals in Westboro’s victory over Algonquin in the CMass title game, which she considers her most memorable sports moment. Volpe was the Rangers’ leading scorer and was fifth in scoring in the Mid-Wach A, being named the league’s co-MVP. Volpe has been a league all-star two years running. She also played volleyball all four years, winning the state championship with Westboro in 2007 and serving as captain this year. In her spare time, Volpe enjoys yoga, swimming and tennis, and will be heading to the University of Delaware in the fall to pursue a nursing degree. She plans to go into nursing after college. She’s the daughter of Sue and John Volpe of Westboro.

artlett has finished an amazing run with the Panthers, setting school records for career goals (226) and assists (44). She was the fourth-leading scorer in MidWach B this season with 70 goals and an assist, earning team MVP honors. She considers scoring her 200th goal and having Marlboro make the Central Mass. tournament for the first time as her most memorable sports moments. She was a spring athlete of the week at Marlboro and a MetroWest News Player of the Week last year. Bartlett also is a four-year varsity soccer player and played one year of varsity basketball. The 5-foot-8 senior enjoys reading, writing and being with friends. She will attend Fitchburg State College in the fall. Her brother, Steven, played hockey and lacrosse at Worcester Academy. She’s the daughter of Laura and Gary Bartlett of Marlboro.

Her performance capped a stellar career in which she earned 11 varsity letters and was an eighttime Mid-Wach A All-Star. The captain also excelled in indoor track, qualifying for the states in the 300, 600 and 1,000 meters as a senior, and in field hockey, being selected to the Elite 60 All-Star team. Kelley was the Central Mass. champion in the 300 as a junior, earning T&G Super Team honors, and was Athlete of the Year as a senior at North Middlesex. She is headed to Fitchburg State College in the fall where she will play alongside her sister, Kaitlyn, a four-year all-star with the Patriots. They are the daughters of Lori and John Kelley of Pepperell.

aynard is making her second straight appearance on the T&G Super Team in girls’ lacrosse, but her most memorable sports moment came in basketball when the 12th-seeded Guardians made it to the semifinals of the Central Mass. tournament after snapping a long postseason drought. The 5-foot-8 junior also runs cross country, but she really made her mark in lacrosse. She was a T&G All-Star as a freshman and set school records for goals (65) and assists (19) as a sophomore. This season, she scored 56 goals with 16 assists as St. Peter-Marian made the Central Mass. playoffs for the second straight year. A member of the National Honor Society, Maynard is undecided about college, but someday would like to become a physical therapist. She enjoys playing all sports as well as volunteering and being with friends. She’s the daughter of Tracy and Donald Maynard of Milford.

lthough just a sophomore, the 5-foot-4 McGill was a key ingredient in the Rangers winning their second straight Central Mass. title. She considers winning the two district titles her most memorable sports moments. She was the eighth-leading scorer in the MidWach A this year with 35 goals and 12 assists. McGill also has been on the varsity field hockey team and competed in gymnastics the last two years. Sports excellence runs in her family. Her brothers, Bill and Derek, both were football and lacrosse captains at Westboro. Her father was a football star at Norwich University and is in the school’s hall of fame. The 15-year-old McGill enjoys photography as well as swimming and cycling. It’s too early for college plans, but she would like to study early childhood education and hopes to become a lacrosse coach. She is the daughter of Fran and Bruce McGill of Westboro.

Anna Meleski Shrewsbury High Junior, Attack he 17-year-old Meleski is looking forward to the day when the Colonials win district and state titles. Shrewsbury came close this year, making it to the Central Mass. semifinals. Meleski had a breakout season for coach Sean Chenevert, scoring 29 goals with 14 assists and being selected a Mid-Wach A All-Star. The highlight of her season was a victory over Franklin when the Colonials played their best game of the season. Meleski also was a key defender on the field hockey team, which was undefeated and seeded No. 1 in the district tournament before losing in the semifinals to Quabbin Regional, 1-0. When not playing sports, Meleski enjoys being with friends. The daughter of Suzanne and Mark Meleski of Shrewsbury, her college plans are undecided.

ongeau is following in the footsteps of her sister, Emily, and her brother, Sam, by making the T&G Super Team. With older sister Jenny earning All-America honors a couple of years ago at Assumption College, lacrosse success obviously runs in the Mongeau family. Rebecca was a Mid-Wach A All-Star for the third straight season after scoring 37 points and helping the Rangers capture the Central Mass. title with a victory over Algonquin Regional. The 17-year-old Mongeau said her team played its best game of the season that night, and she considers the performance her most memorable sports moment. She is also a two-time league all-star in soccer and has played varsity basketball the last two seasons. Mongeau enjoys singing and reading. She is undecided about college, but wants to study math or biology with the hope of someday becoming a physics professor. She is the daughter of Patricia and Peter Mongeau of Westboro.

She played lacrosse all four years at Algonquin and was a Mid-Wach A All-Star the last two. She was a captain and MetroWest All-Star this year. Mukai was Rookie of the Year as a freshman and won the Grassy Knuckles Award for scooping the most ground balls as a sophomore. She was also captain of the soccer team, which won the Central Mass. title for the first time last fall. Mukai said that was her most memorable sports moment. She enjoys art, music, traveling and being with friends. The daughter of Kathleen O’Grady and John Mukai of Northboro, she is headed to Whittier College in the fall.

he only freshman on the T&G Super Team, O’Connell had a tremendous first season, finishing third in scoring in the Mid-Wach A with 60 goals and 26 assists. She was a league and MetroWest AllStar and her contributions were a big reason that coach Missy Nash’s Tomahawks made it the Central Mass. final before losing to Westboro. The lone freshman on the team, O’Connell scored five goals and had five assists in a quarterfinal victory over Wachusett. That set up a semifinal triumph over Shrewsbury, and O’Connell considers that victory, which put Algonquin in the final, her most memorable sports moment. She hopes to keep improving and someday play lacrosse at a Division 1 college. She enjoys other sports, too, including soccer, basketball, skiing and snowboarding. She’s the daughter of Danielle and Todd O’Connell of Southboro.

he versatility of the 16-year-old Petrunich extends well beyond the lacrosse field. She also has played field hockey the last two years, and is a musician who plays guitar, sings, and writes songs as well. She sang her original, “Walk with Me,” before the annual diabetes walk last year in Worcester. She has been in the school musical the last two years. Petrunich has been quite a performer in lacrosse, too. She had 19 goals and 19 assists as a freshman, and improved those numbers to 25 and 28 this year, making the Mid-Wach A AllStar team. Petrunich led Westboro in assists and was one of eight Rangers to score in the victory over Algonquin in the Central Mass. final. Petrunich called winning the districts the last two seasons her most memorable sports moments. She’s the daughter of Arlene and Mike Petrunich of Westboro.

Coach Missy Nash’s team lost in the final to Westboro High, but Scopetski certainly did her part, scoring four goals. She played varsity lacrosse for four seasons and varsity volleyball as a junior. She was a league lacrosse all-star least year. Scopetski is headed to UMass on a lacrosse scholarship in the fall, and she considers getting that scholarship her most memorable sports moment. Besides sports, Scopetski enjoys music and traveling. Her older sister, Lindsay, was a T&G Super Team member in lacrosse two years ago. They are the daughters of Karen and Kevin Scopetski of Norhtboro.

insley is a repeat selection to the T&G Super Team after leading Central Mass. in scoring by a large margin, ringing up 112 points during the regular season on 85 goals and 27 assists. The Colonials’ captain was a Mid-Wach A All-Star and the league’s co-MVP as well as team MVP. She scored nine goals in a game against Wachusett Regional, but said her most memorable sports moment was a victory over Franklin when Shrewsbury played its best game of the season. Tinsely will be a captain again next year, and her goal is for the Colonials to win a state title. She also plays club lacrosse for the Revolution and is a member of the Lower New England Premier national team. Tinsley has played field hockey the last three years for the Colonials. Her sister, Alicia, was a T&G Super Team pick last year and now plays at Merrimack College. They are the daughters of Joan and Kevin Tinsley of Shrewsbury.

Wuorio scored three goals in that game. Nashoba finished undefeated in Mid-Wach B and Wuorio had four goals and four assists in a victory over Marlboro that clinched the league title. The 17-year-old Wuorio was a league all-star last year. She also plays varsity soccer, and in the winter plays indoor soccer and lacrosse. Wuorio’s college plans are undecided, but wherever she goes, she wants to play lacrosse. She is the daughter of Dottie and Chuck Wuorio of Bolton.
