Bericht des Präsidenten Wenn euch dieses Nachrichtenblatt erreicht, dann haben wir unsere Jahreshauptversammlung hinter uns und die meisten Mitglieder sind über den Verlauf dieser Versammlung informiert. Die Berichte für das Nachrichtenblatt müssen am 8. Tag des Monats abgegeben werden, daher kann ich die Ergebnisse der Vorstandswahl oder was sonst noch wichtiges besprochen wurde, noch nicht bekanntgeben. Im nächsten Nachrichtenblatt werde ich das

nachholen. Unser Präsidentenball, der Höhepunkt unserer Klubveranstaltungen, findet am 23. März statt. Besorgt euch eure Eintrittskarten, den die besten Sitzgelegenheiten sind immer schnell ausverkauft. Dann möchte ich euch noch auf unser Oster-Buffet aufmerksam machen. Ostern ist dieses Jahr schon am 31. März. Wiederum bucht eure Reservierung zeitig, damit es keine Enttäuschung gibt. Das Bockbierfest der Frauengruppe, mit Krönung unserer Miss Concordia für das Jahr 2013, ist am 13. April. Zum Muttertag haben wir wieder ein Buffet und dieser Sonntag ist am 12. Mai.

President’s Report By the time you read this Bulletin, our Annual Membership Meeting will have taken place and most members will be familiar with the results. Since the deadline for the submission to this bulletin is February 8th, I am unable to report on the results of the election or any other items that might have been brought forward at the meeting. Instead, I will do so in detail in the April edition. Our President Ball, which is the highlight of our Club’s events, is on the 23rd of March. Please make your reservation early to avoid disappointments. Easter Sunday is on the 31st of March this year, and we will once again have our famous Easter Buffet. Again, make your reservation early; this is a sellout every year. The Bockbierfest of the Ladies group with the crowning of our Miss Concordia is on the 13th of April. As well, Mothers Day is on the 12th of May with a Buffet dinner in the Hall. I hope to see you at the Presidents Ball, Bockbierfest and all of our Club functions. Your President, Karl Braun

Der Geschäftsführer berichtet Wechsel in der Geschäftsführung Nach eingehenden Überlegungen habe ich vor ein paar Tagen den Präsidenten und den Klubvorstand davon verständigt, dass ich beabsichtige zum 30. April 2013 in den Ruhestand zu treten! Ich denke die Zeit ist gekommen, das Zepter der Geschäftsführung an eine ebenso begabte als auch beliebte Mitarbeiterin zu übergeben, die – so bin ich mir sicher, alle Qualitäten und Eigenschaften mit sich bringt den Klub erfolgreich weiterzuführen. Es freut mich deshalb gleichzeitig ankündigen zu können, dass unsere Frau Ruth Rajna (geborene Burghardt) mein Amt vorerst mal auf Probe weiterführen wird. Gleichzeitig wird unsere Martina Koslowski die freigewordene Stelle von Frau Rajna probeweise als Bankettmanagerin übernehmen. Seien Sie deshalb versichert, dass Sie nach wie vor in guten Händen liegen! Ganz los sind sie mich aber doch nicht, denn in den Folgemonaten werde ich dem neuen Team mit Rat und Tat zur Seite stehen, damit der Übergang auch gut, reibungslos und richtig klappt. Es war mir eine Ehre und große Freude den Klub für 32 Jahre führen zu können

und gerne werde ich an meine Karriere – und die eine oder andere Geschichte zurückdenken! Verbesserung im Reservierungssystem Seit Anfang Februar bietet sich die Möglichkeit der Tischreservierung über unsere Web Seite, und zwar kann man diese zu jeder Tages- und Nachtzeit vornehmen. Dies ist meiner Meinung nach eine eindeutige Verbesserung, denn zusätzlich zum Telefon oder der persönlichen Reservierung im Klubbüro gibt es jetzt noch einen weiteren Weg. Die Hauptidee ist hier, dass der Klub zugänglicher wird und man nicht warten muss, bis jemand das Telefon beantwortet, bzw. das Klubbüro geöffnet ist. Probieren sie bei der nächsten Gelegenheit mal aus! Mitglieds-Rabatt Manchmal passiert es, dass das eine oder andere Mitglied Klarheit darüber braucht, wie die Regeln bezüglich des Mitgliederabatts sind. Das verhält sich folgendermaßen: Jedem bezahlten Mitglied steht in der Schenke ein 15%iger Rabatt am Essen, sowie an alkoholfreien Getränken zu. Die Mitgliedskarte muss beim Bestellen dem Servierpersonal vorgelegt werden. Eine Übergangsregelung am Jahresanfang besteht, wobei die alte Mitgliedskarte des Vorjahres noch für 15 Tage Gültigkeit hat. Der Rabatt gilt nicht für Veranstaltungen und Zusammenkünfte in den Einzelzimmern, er ist für das normale Schenkegeschäft

eingerichtet. Mehrere Gäste eines Mitglieds können in den Genuß des Rabatts kommen, sofern alles auf eine Rechnung geht und diese von einem bzw. dem Mitglied bezahlt wird. Der Discount gilt auch für „take out orders“, also Essen welches abgeholt wird. Der Discount gilt ebenso an größeren, vertraglichen Buchungen sofern diese in der Schenke stattfinden – also nicht für die Weinstube oder die Jägerstube, ganz gleichgültig ob alles auf eine Rechnung oder auf einzeln bezahlt wird. Der darunterliegende Gedanke ist, daß das tagtägliche Schenke-Geschäft auf dem laufenden gehalten bzw. belebt wird. Die Bankettzimmer, also Wein- oder Jaegerstube werden in der Regel immer für einen spezifischen Zweck vermietet und das Preisgefüge sowie das Serviceangebot ist dann immer anders, als das in der Schenke.

Von Zeit zu Zeit, je nach Jahreszeit und anderen Umständen sind Sonderangebote entweder ein- oder auch vom Rabatt ausgeschlossen! Generell sind sie zwar eingeschlossen, aber wir haben auch manchmal Situationen, wo der Mitgliedsdiscount nicht gilt, da der Preis in diesen Fällen dann schon besonders extra niedrig gehalten ist. Ebenso ausgenommen ist der Mitgliederrabatt an den Dienstagabenden, da wir dort jede zweite Hauptspeise um 50% reduzieren und nicht zusätzliche 15%

geben können. Ich hoffe Sie haben dafür Verständins! Präsidenten Ball Am 23. März findet wieder eine Galaveranstaltung im feierlichen Rahmen in unserer Halle statt, bei der auch Sie mit dabei sein sollten! Karten für diese Veranstaltung gibt es im Klubbüro zum Preis von nur $48.- im Vorverkauf. Karten am Tag der Veranstaltung , sowie an der Abendkasse kosten $52.Natürlich schließt dieser Preis eine schöne Cocktailstunde, Häppchen, Vorspeise mit Festessen und was noch so alles dazugehört (Steuern) mit ein. Dunkler Anzug ist selbstverständlich erwünscht, denn zu diesem würdigen Anlass erwarten wir allerhand geladene Gäste aus dem gesellschaftlichen und öffentlichen Leben. Seien Sie auch mit dabei genießen Sie, was der Klub so an kulturellem zu bieten hat. Jeder, der in den letzten Jahren mit dabei war, verbrachte ein paar tolle Stunden in unserem Klub. Zum Tanz spielt in diesem Jahr das Edelweiss Trio!

Ich will Sie nicht drängen, aber die besten Plätze gehen gleich zum Anfang, schieben Sie deshalb diese Sache nicht auf die lange Bank! Bereiten Sie dem Winter ein würdiges Ende – denn der Frühling steht dann bestimmt vor der Tür! Ostern Schon heute möchte ich Sie auf unsere beiden Osterveranstaltungen aufmerksam machen. Ostern fällt in diesem Jahr etwas früher als sonst, und zwar auf den 31. März!! Der Klub wird um 12 Uhr zum Brunch geöffnet sein und dann wieder um 17 Uhr zum Buffet. Ein farbenfrohes und leckeres Buffet mit großer Auswahl wartet auf alle unsere Gäste! Unser Küchenchef Andreas plant mal wieder was besonderes schmackhaftes und farbenfreudiges! Tischreservierungen nehmen wir gerne entgegen und unser Personal freut sich schon heute auf Ihren Besuch!

FROM THE MANAGER'S DESK Management changes After careful deliberations, I have recently announced my retirement as General Manager of the Concordia Club. I have enjoyed the last 32 years and I think the time has come to pass the torch to another capable and competent person! My retirement will be effective April 30th, 2013 and I look forward to a different and hopefully more relaxed lifestyle. I am also pleased to announce that Ruth Rajna will be assuming the role of Acting General Manager. Ruth is more than capable and has the knowledge

and skills needed to fulfill the role of managing the club. Martina Koslowksi, who you all know as a waitress and door person, will take over Ruth’s previou’s job as Acting Banquet Manager. But... you haven't seen the last of me yet. I will be providing some assistance to Ruth in order to facilitate the transition in the initial months post my official retirement in April. It's been a pleasure working for the Concordia Club and I have thoroughly enjoyed the time in my capacity as Manager. Improved Reservation System In addition to telephone and over-thecounter reservations we are now also offering an online table reservation system via our website! This means that anyone can also make a table reservation for the Schenke 24/7 directly from his computer or handheld device. This ultimate goal is to make the club more accessible and to make it easier for our members and customers to reserve a spot in the Schenke. Membership Discount and how it works Every year we find ourselves having to explain how this “membership discount thing” actually works and how it applies to different situations: To keep the record straight here is our membership discount policy:

All paid up members can enjoy a 15% discount on the food portion of their restaurant bill if they can provide their server with a valid membership card. This discount also applies to take out orders as long as a valid membership card is shown when picking up the order. There is also a 15 day grace period to January 15th, where the old membership card is still valid for the purpose of the discount. This discount is not valid for banquets and events held in either the Jaegerstube or the Weinstube. It is meant for regular restaurant use only. Multiple guests of a member can enjoy the discount as well, providing it is on one bill and the member pays the bill. The discount is allowed for contract events held in the Schenke, but not in the Weinstube or Jaegerstube, regardless of how it is paid (separate or on one bill). The reason for some of the limitations is to make the restaurant appealing on a day to day basis for the membership at large. We want to attract regular members to utilize and frequent the restaurant. From time to time, depending on pricing, supplies and circumstances, the discounting is not available for specials, features of the day or special limited menus, however this is usually an exception. For example, the discount

can not be used on Tuesday nights when the second meal is already 1/2 price. President’s Ball Do you have your tickets for this Club Gala event already? If not, there is probably still a good chance to get yours! After all, the annual Presidents Ball ranks very high on the list of special club events. We try to do our utmost in culinary offerings and during that evening many have the chance to speak to local elected officials – and even if it is only to say a friendly “hello”. Who knows, sometimes it can come in handy when you need help with whatever it may be, such as Canadian pension, health care, snow plowing and much more! As snow and March break has been a major stumbling block in the past we have moved this event to the end of March ! We hope therefore to have a greater attendance! Ticket price is $ 48.- per person including applicable taxes (the day of the event however they are $ 52.- ea) This includes a cocktail hour with a full spread of appetizers as well as a special gourmet dinner and entertainment by the Edelweiss Trio Band. This event is on March 23rd! Winter should be over by then!! Easter I would like to make you aware that Easter is celebrated very early this year! It is on Sunday, March 31st. Again, as

we have done in the past, we will be having two seatings: one at lunch (noon) and the other at 5pm for our supper buffet. Both buffets will be colorful, springlike and of course delicious as usual. There is a small difference between them with the lunch one more like a “brunch” type Easter Buffet and the the evening one is a typical Easter Smörgåsbord. Chef Andreas and all his cooks and kitchen helpers are planning to make this event as outstanding as we’ve seen in the past. There is no doubt in my mind that it will be excellent! Table reservations can be made here in the club office or over our web page. The prices this year are: $ 22.50 per person. Children between 4 and 12 pay half price and children under 4 are free (Plus applicable taxes and gratuity).

Nachrichtenblatt In der letzten Ausgabe des Nachrichtenblatts habe ich bekannt gegeben, dass ich gerne 1 oder 2 Seiten des Nachrichtenblatts für Kommentare und Vorschläge bereit halten würde. Bis jetzt habe ich noch keine Kommentare oder Vorschläge bekommen so muss ich annehmen, dass die Mitgliedschaft vollkommen zufrieden ist mit der Leitung des Concordia Klubs. Ich höre immer wieder, wie die Mitglieder das eine oder das andere besser machen würden. Wir geben euch hiermit die Gelegenheit eure Ideen an uns weiterzuleiten. That means the membership is completely satisfied how the Board and Management run the Club. We hear always some members talking how we could improve something in our club.

Tischtennis Gruppe Mein Vorschlag zum Jahresbeginn, dienstags und am Donnerstag fleissig zum Training zu erscheinen, ist anscheinend auf fruchtbaren Boden gefallen. Die Tische waren am 31.01.13 alle gut besetzt und man bereitete sich intensiv auf das bevorstehende Tournament vor. Nur einige Wenige nahmen das schlechte Wetter zum Vorwand, lieber zu Hause „hinterm Ofen“ zu bleiben. Na, darueber muss sicher noch gesprochen werden. Unser Tournament unter der Leitung von John Mayer und Scott Sinclair startete am 07. Februar und soll zuegig innerhalb von acht Wochen durchgefuehrt werden. Dieser Zeitraum gibt sicher auch unseren The Table Tennis Group is sad to announce the loss of another member of the group.

Erwin Kessler Erwin was a Table Tennis member and a Club member since 1967. He was one of the founding members of the Table Tennis group and was very actively involved. He was many years the number one in our group and around town. The last few years where very rough on him. The group lost a very good and dedicated player. Rest in Peace Erwin. Our Condolences to the Elfie and His Family. The Table Tennis Group.

„Snow Birds“ Gelegenheit, an dem RoundRobin Tournament ohne Zeitnot teilzunehmen. Ich wuensche allen Spielern Erfolg und eine gute Platzierung. Wenn ich diesen Bericht schreibe, liegt unsere Jahreshauptversammlung am 24. Februar noch vor uns. Da wichtige Themen zu besprechen und Entscheidungen fuer unseren Klub zu treffen sind, hoffe ich auf eine gute Beteiligung aller Mitglieder. Wahlrecht und Meinungsaeusserung ist ein Privileg! TABLE TENNIS GROUP It is great to see that so many of our group members have followed my suggestion in the last bulletin and have come out to play on Tuesdays and Thursdays. January 31 saw a great turnout and only a select few, including the author of this article, used the inclement weather as an excuse to stay home and warm the couch. This year’s tournament, organized by John Mayer and Scott Sinclair, began on February 7 and will wrap up after only 8 weeks. This gives our „Snow Birds“ the chance to participate in the round-robin tournament without conflicting with their travel plans. Writing this report our Annual Membership meeting on February 24 is still ahead of us. Since there are a lot of important matters on the agenda which need to be addressed, I hope for a good participation of our membership. I wish everyone the best of luck. Garden Group The Garden Group will be arranging our first outing for the spring season with the Stratford Garden Show. This takes place the first weekend of March. Edith will be calling to check out which day and time works out the best. This is always a great way to begin the new growing season, and Stratford is close. Hopefully we can also have a lunch together before the tour. February’s visit to the nursery and lecture on orchids was held on a Saturday. Looking forward to the new garden season. Mary Stammwitz

I noticed in the February bulletin the following mistakes. There were some Committee reports missing and some names where misplaced.

So zum Beispiel fehlten Komitee-Berichte, auch waren Name u.s.w. nicht richtig eingesetzt! Bei meinem Vergnuegungs-Jahresbericht haette statt Brigitte Pastrik - “Erika Kuers” stehen muessen! Erika hat mit Alfred tatkraeftig bei Dekorationen mitgeholfen!

On my entertainment yearly report I made the mistake to name Brigitte Pastrik as one of my helpers. It should be Erika Kuers. Alfred and Erika helped me a lot with all the decorations. Please forgive us for the mistakes in the bulletin. I wish the new Board of Directors with Karl Braun as President good luck for the future

Ladies Group Well spring is just around the corner and I hope that Wiarton Willie was correct with his prediction. With spring comes Bockbierfest which will take place Saturday, April 13. Doors open at 6:30 pm with dinner at 7:00 pm. We will all be dancing to the sounds of the “Twin City Alpine Echo”. Also the Enzian Schuhplattler will be performing for us. Of course there will be plenty of Bockbier to drink. This is always a great entertaining night and will be so again this year, so we hope to see you all there. Unsere kleine Gruppe traf sich am 6. Februar in der Jaegerstube. Anwesend waren 13 Mitglieder. Praesident Frqnz Feest eroeffnete unsere Sitzung puenktlich um 14.30 Uhr. Post gab es keine, nicht mal unsere Provinziale Regierung schreibt uns mehr, nachdem ich es einmal gewagt habe, um eine finanzielle Unterstuetzzung zu bitten, damit wir mal mit einem Bus eine tour auf unser Regierungsgebaeude in Toronto machen koennen. Dafuer war die Stimmung aber Klasse! Es gab eine Menge lustige Witze, Geschichten und gesungen wurde auch ganz kraeftig. Heidi Feest war gross in Form und spielte ein interessantes Medley und wir alle sangen kraeftig mit. Unser Weihnachtsessen ist bezahlt, Geld haben wir

Unser Vorstand wurde einstimmig wieder gewaehlt, wir versuchen es also alle noch einmal fuer ein Jahr. Unser Geburtstagskind fuer Februar ist Klara Richter, die am 18 Februar 92 Jahre alt wird. Klara wir wuenschen Dir nochmals alles Gute. Bleib gesund, damit wir Dich noch lange in unserer Mitte haben. Wir treffen uns wieder am 6. Maerz um 14.30 Uhr in der Jaegerstube. Dieses mal verabschiede ich mich mit einem Gedicht von Friederich Wilhelm Weber. Friederich Wilhelm Weber lebte von 1813 – 1894 und gehoert zu den grossen Klassikern des 19ten Jahrhunderts. Er schrieb sein bestes Werk, das grosse Westfalen Epos “Dreizehn Linden” im Alter von 63 Jahren. Winterwald im Sonnenglanze, reich an Silber und Diamanten, die an jedem Zweige blitzen die auf jeder Knospe brannten. Rings ein Glimmern und ein Gluehen, gleich, als wollten eidle Zwerge einmal zum Verwundern zeigen all den Reichtum ihrer Berge; all den Hort geheimer Schaetze die sie rastlos schuerften, scharrten. Es wurde beschlossen, dass sich unsere Gruppe zu einem gemütlichen Zusammensein/Versammlung, jeden zweiten Monat, am zweiten Mittwoch um 17:30 in der Schenke trifft. Bitte schreibt euch diese Daten auf: 13. März, 8. Mai, 10. Juli, 11.September, und der 13. November.

Our group agreed to meet again every second Wednesday of every second month at 5:30 pm in the Schenke for a social gettogether/meeting. Please mark these dates on your calendar: March 13, Mai 8, July 10, September 11, November 13.

Unsere Jahreshauptversammlung mit Wahlen haben wir von Januar auf den Monat November verlegt. Unsere nächste Hauptversammlung findet dann am 13. November 2013 statt.

Our annual meeting with elections will no longer take place in January but was moved to the month of November. Therefore, our next annual meeting will take place on November 13th, 2013 which coincides with our bi-monthly meeting.

Wir trefffen uns alle am 13. März zu unserem ersten Gesellschaftsabend. Am 6. April findet der Frühlingstanz vom Treffpunkt statt.

Concordia Chöre Guten Tag! During the Annual General Meeting, we had an opportunity to elect new members to the Choir Board. The board this year consists of members that, incidentally, are exactly the same as last year! The board members consist of: Helmut Kruschat - President Uli Schmidt - Vice President

Our long-time former singer Art Beier is currently living at Bankside Retirement Home. We have decided to have the Male Choir sing for him and the other seniors at Bankside. The date will be Thursday, March 14 at 6pm. Stay tuned for more! We also have 3 new children in the Children’s Choir and now we total 13. Did you know that this is the only Children’s choir left in North America, at least for the German Clubs? Of course there are German children’s choirs at schools and other locations.

Eis Stock-Group Hallo to all of you, We had a very nice Saturday on Hans Schweighofers Pond where this time the Milton Ice Stock Athletics Club hosted a tournament. We had so much fun last time playing ‘wild’ that we all together decided to do it again! There where 15 players present so we could form four teams, four mass shooters where appointed which had the chance to choose their own Team.

Schweighofer and Max Amtmann, that we asked Hans if we could hold another tournament on his pond during this winter season. It is a nice central location for all Clubs not to have such a long drive. By the way the roasted Pork with Dumplings and Sauerkraut would earn every cock at least some ‘Stars’, special Thanks to you Max! So now have fun looking at the pictures, in that sense Stock cool and Hot Ice sincerely Ronny

With a big Hallo every player was welcomed in to each team. It was a pleasure to see that it worked out just perfect. Sure on the beginning two Teams had one player shooting twice but after a friend of Hans showed up we where almost complete, his name is Tim. Last but not least is left to say that we enjoyed it so much, also because Kata Zaric and Hans Ladinig served us excellent with food and drinks sponsored by Hans
