Your assignment will be to write a two page (word processed using Word, 12 point Times Roman font, double spaced – approximately 500 words) summary of and reaction to what you have read for three (3) of the readings. Your first few paragraphs should concisely summarise the key ideas presented in the reading. The remainder of the assignment will be your reaction to that key idea. For this portion you may examine, for example, how the idea(s) presented have impacted your thinking about the particular subject area; the applicability of the ideas in your own personal work, sport, or volunteer setting; a short critique of the ideas presented. It may be just about anything, as long as it is your reaction to the ideas contained in the readings. As noted previously, you are to write a total of 3 reactions. It is your choice, which three readings you would like to react to. The reactions will be due prior to the beginning of our time together. Seminar: At the end of each day of the course, the students will be divided into small groups. These groups will then be asked to discuss a series of questions. At the end of the discussion, each group will present a summary of their discussion to the larger group. At the conclusion of the time together, each participant will write a short summary of his or her individual thoughts related to the general discussion (a short paragraph or two). Exam: The exam will be primarily multiple choice or true/false. However, each exam will have some short answer and essay type questions. The final exam will be cumulative in nature.
