Dear Friends and Co-workers, November 2006 At a recent meeting of SU Directors in Pacific Region, we were encouraged to consider the various prayers of the apostle Paul in Romans 15, Ephesians 1 and 3, Philippians 1, Colossians 1, I Thessalonians 3, and II Thessalonians 1. At the beginning of some of these prayers is an indication of the depth of faith from which they spring. These include… “the God of our Lord Jesus Christ the glorious Father”, “the Father from whom His whole family in heaven and on earth derives its name”, “the God of peace”. Common to all of them is the desire that the people might be filled with… hope, knowledge of God and His will, insight, spiritual wisdom, patience and endurance, love for each other, and, particularly, power. Repeatedly the prayers include the purpose for this; so that their hearts and minds may glorify the Father, they may live lives worthy of the Lord and may bear fruit in every good work, and may be blameless and holy that the name of Christ be glorified until He comes. We need to bear in mind that these prayers are specific to the people to whom Paul writes, however, they were also common in the sense they were written to people who were trying to work out what it meant to be the people of God in this ‘new land’ increasingly spreading throughout the world. May this directory and the prayer information that is circulated in each Region be used in the worldwide community of Scripture Union as we pray with faith, desire, and thanksgiving.

En una reunión reciente de Directores de UB en la Región Pacífico, se nos animó a que consideremos las oraciones del apóstol Pablo en Romanos 15, Efesios 1 y 3, Filipenses 1, Colosenses 1, 1 Tesalonicenses 3, y 2 Tesalonicenses 1. Al inicio de algunas de estas oraciones tenemos una indicación de la profunda fe de la cual nacen. Incluyen … “el Dios de nuestro Señor Jesucristo, el Padre de gloria”, “el Padre … de quien toma nombre toda familia en los cielos y en la tierra”, “el Dios de paz”. Todos coinciden en el deseo que los lectores estén llenos de ... esperanza, conocimiento de Dios y Su voluntad, entendimiento, sabiduría espiritual, paciencia y perseverancia, amor el uno por el otro y, sobre todo, poder. Vez tras vez, las oraciones mencionan el propósito de esto: para que sus corazones y sus mentes glorifiquen al Padre, que vivan vidas dignas del Señor y lleven fruto en toda buena obra y sean puros y santos de tal manera que el nombre de Cristo sea glorificado hasta que Él venga. Debemos tener en mente que estas oraciones son específicas para las personas a las que escribe Pablo. Sin embargo, también son comunes en el sentido que se escribieron a personas que procuraban entender lo que significaba ser el pueblo de Dios, vivir en la ‘nueva tierra’ que se difundía cada vez más por el mundo. Que esta guía y la información de oración que se circula en cada Región sean usadas en la comunidad global de la Unión Bíblica y que oremos con fe, deseo y acción de gracias.

De la part de la PDG de la LLB Internationale Chers amis et coéquipiers, Novembre 2006 Lors d’une récente rencontre des dirigeants de la Ligue dans la région du Pacifique, nous avons été encouragés à examiner les prières de l’apôtre Paul dans Romains 15, Ephésiens 1 et 3, Philippiens 1, Colossiens 1, I Thessaloniciens 3 et II Thessaloniciens 1. En introduction de certaines de ces prières figure une indication de la profondeur de la foi qui les nourrit. Parmi elles, puisse… “le Dieu de notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ, le glorieux Père”, “le Père dont dépend toute famille dans les cieux et sur la terre”, “le Dieu de paix”. Elles ont comme point commun le désir que les gens soient remplis : d’espérance, de connaissance de Dieu et de Sa volonté, de perspicacité, de sagesse spirituelle, de patience et d’endurance, d’amour les uns pour les autres et, plus particulièrement, de puissance. De manière répétée, les prières mentionnent le but de cela : afin que leur cœur et leur esprit puissent glorifier le Père, qu’ils puissent vivre une vie digne du Seigneur et qu’ils puissent porter du fruit dans toutes leurs bonnes œuvres, qu’ils soient irréprochables et saints, pour que le nom du Christ soit glorifié jusqu’à son retour. Nous devons garder à l’esprit que ces prières sont spécifiques aux personnes à qui Paul écrit, toutefois, elles étaient également courantes dans le sens où elles étaient écrites pour tous ceux qui s’efforçaient de comprendre ce que signifiait être le peuple de Dieu sur cette ‘nouvelle terre’, qui s’étendait rapidement dans le monde entier. Puissent ce guide et les informations de prière qui circulent dans chaque région, être utilisés au sein de la communauté de la Ligue du monde entier alors que nous prions avec foi, désir et reconnaissance.
