they were responsible for monitoring supplier deadlines. ‚We are very proud to have handled such a prestigious project in this way, especially considering it was the first of this size‘, explains Nada Markmann, BUHLMANN GROUP‘s Senior Manager Sales West. ‚Thanks to the fantastic cooperation among my entire team, and their expertise, we managed in the end to convince Evonik that we will remain a strategically important and reliable trading partner in the future.‘

Big order for BUHLMANN GROUP in the Chemiepark Marl (Source: Evonik Industries) Invitation to tender victory for BUHLMANN GROUP: the premium trading house is critically involved in the expansion of an Evonik Industries production facility. The industrial group is increasing their 1-butene LNG capacity in Chemiepark Marl by 75,000 tonnes. From January until July 2014 BUHLMANN GROUP supplied Evonik

with more than 2000 items and a gross weight of 850 tonnes of steel products. This large contract was involved supplying seamless and welded carbon steel pipes, fittings and flanges. The flanges were also made available in stainless steel. The lion‘s share of the material volume came from BUHLMANN‘s central warehouse in Hilden, which has a total floor capacity

of 21,500 square metres. Handling was global teamwork Several BUHLMANN sites and departments were involved in handling this large contract. For example, the Team PowerGen from the Sales West department in Hilden and the BUHLMANN branch in Italy provided mutual support. Among other things

Strategic exchange

BUHLMANN delegation visits Turkish steel producer BORUSAN

COMPANY

BUHLMANN GROUP intensifies the partnership with the Turkish steel producer BORUSAN in Istanbul. In addition to cooperation in the welded pipes for the shipbuilding industry sector, activities in the oil and gas industry, and in the chemicals industry, are now also in focus.

from both companies agreed to hold a strategy meeting in Istanbul. ‚The aim was to further delineate our cooperation and agree on specific measures, but also to deepen personal contacts‘, Gerd Gründling, Director International Projects Division explained the reasoning behind this.

From BUHLMANN GROUP‘s perspective supplying the gas industry with welded pipes in both longitudinally and spirally welded formats was particularly interesting. BORUSAN even built a new factory in Gemlik for the latter production line, in order to service the global market. Here, BUHLMANN has become a preferred partner for servicing the German market and for special customers around the world.

On the bottom line both companies have moved even closer together, both strategically and operatively, and have thus further extended the basis for successful cooperation. Gerd Gründling emphasises, s u m m a r i s i n g : ‚ M o r e o v e r, t h e factory tours gave us a very good impression of pipe production. Our partner prizes the same values that we also appreciate. We are already cooperating on large gas industry projects in Germany and therefore on our first success stories.‘

46th Power Station Engineering Colloquium Dresden

Dr. Axel Willauschus represents BUHLMANN GROUP On 14 and 15 October of this year the Congress Center Dresden was the arena for what was the 46th Power Station Engineering Colloquium. Dr. Axel Willauschus, Senior Manager Technical Services, and simultaneously representing BUHLMANN GROUP, was invited to be guest speaker. BUHLMANN GROUP‘s materials expert gave a presentation on the opportunities for a pipe materials service provider in the maintenance of power stations. In front of 90 attendees his talk generated a lot of interest in the Materials for Power Engineering stream, one of five

parallel specialist streams held at the congress. The predecessor of the Power Station Engineering Colloquium was the Power Station Conference held in the former German Democratic Republic. It has been held since the 1960s, initially in a two-year cycle, then annually. Today, at around 750 delegates, the colloquium is the largest of seven events around the country on the topics of power stations and power generation, such as the FDBR materials conference, the power station conference in Berlin or the VGB conference. The colloquium is organised by the

COMPANY Technical University of Dresden. The delegates come from the fields of power station engineering research, power station operators, pressure vessel fabricators, TÜV, measuring and control engineering.

90 listeners were interested in the talk of materials expert Dr. Axel Willauschus, Senior Manager Technical Services BUHLMANN GROUP

‚The energy revolution and its management, and the position of existing, conventional energy sources in the context of this change, formed the focal point of the plenary session‘, explains Dr. Axel Willauschus. Among the practical topics, the focus was on combustion techniques, increasing energy efficiency and official constraints.

First order for North American shipbuilder

CLIENTS

A novelty for BUHLMANN GROUP: for the first time, the premium trading house has supplied a North American shipbuilder with P235GH carbon steel. The pipes, reducers, t-pieces, flanges and elbows were used in the conversion of the cruiser ‚Island Princess‘. The North American shipbuilder‘s order has a volume of more than 50 tonnes – and yet was still dealt with within a week and a half. The material was used for the water tanks and the diesel generators, among other things. ‚We held the order ready for collection by our customer in our warehouses in in Bremen, Duisburg and Hilden‘, said Marco Steffes, BUHLMANN GROUP‘s Manager Sales International Export West & America. The spare parts were required to EN standard format and were successfully supplied by BUHLMANN GROUP. Marco Steffes knows: ‚Many ships built in Europe, including this one, require materials

The BUHLMANN GROUP delivered more than 50 tonnes of material for the “Island Princess” (copyright: Princess Cruises) compliant with European standards. However, repairs or conversion work are often carried out in the Caribbean or in Florida, because of the more favourable weather

conditions among other reasons.‘ In addition to the Export West & America department with Marco Steffes and his colleague Nina Broschart, who dealt with order

picking in 48 hours, the Sales - North department carried out flanking action in terms of the special requirements of certification bodies.

Background

What is LNG? Liquefied Natural Gas, or LNG for short, is liquefied, extremely cold, natural gas. But why does one change the substance‘s state from gaseous to liquid? An attempted explanation. Natural gas turns to liquid, and thus to LNG, at temperatures lower than -162°C. During the cooling proce s s numerous impuritie s, which can damage the cooling units, are precipitated to prevent the cooling units from failing. In addition, up to 15 percent carbon dioxide collects and is also precipitated. But why? The answer lies in the liquid to gaseous expansion ratio. This is 1: 600 for LNG. In liquid form, natural gas therefore occupies 600 times less volume than as a gas! This allows large quantities

of energy to be transported over long distances and be stored in tanks. In an atmospheric vaporiser LNG is then converted back to a gaseous state. And LNG has another considerable advantage: Liquefied Natural Gas is ver y

economical and ef ficient. A s pure natural gas, consisting of almost 100 percent methane, it has an average calorific value of approximately 11.6 kWh per cubic metre. The use of LNG as a fuel – for example in shipping – has

continuously increased in recent years.

TUBE China 2014

BUHLMANN China Limited's third attendance From 27 until 29 September it was that time of year again: the Shanghai New International Expo Center (SNIEC) was the arena for TUBE China 2014. BUHLMANN China Limited was there for the third time. BUHLMANN GROUP was present in a prominent position at TUBE China 2014 in Shanghai, represented by its subsidiary company BUHLMANN China Limited. The fair booth was located close to the entrance, just as it was two years ago. It was well attended by visitors, potential customers and suppliers on all three days.
