Moose in Motion! I would like to thank all those who participated and or contributed in some manner to the Sixth Annual Walk/Brunch, which took place on Sunday, June 23, 2013. It can be a very overwhelming project but with the continued support of the LOOM and WOTM, it is always a wonderful event. This yearʹs proceeds benefited John Irwin, a LOOM in need, the General Moose Fund, and the WOTM chair headed by Nikki Salansky. The dayʹs event included the walk at Graue Mill (I still canʹt believe some folks got lost again), a Split the Pot, and a Raffle for a one of a kind birdhouse. The weather held up until early evening when the rain decided to downpour. The party didnʹt stop but moved to the garage for more libations and cigars. Any future Walk/Brunch will bear the name ʺ‘Artieʹs Angels,’ a memorial walk to benefit . . . .” Hopefully, next year, we will all be healthy and the proceeds can go to the General Moose Fund. A special thanks to the major sponsors: • Dick Hayes—Hayes Foremost: adult beverages • Bob Nudd—Moose in Motion wristbands • Steve Marney—SM Handyman Service: birdhouse I am very proud of our Lodge—WE ARE a Family Center. Again, sincere thanks!!! Jan Powell
Mooseheart School Renovation Fundraiser
September 28, Fall Golf Outing, Boughton Ridge, 1 p.m.
Our lodges and chapters did so well with the October Cradle and the February Rocker Fundraisers that the same concept can be adapted to raise much-needed funds for the Mooseheart School Renovation. Donate as little as a $1 for a Mooseheart School Renovation tag, sign it, and paste it behind the bar, on the wall, or on a window. Show you care enough to do your very best for the Mooseheart Child City and School. Children are our future—the Mooseheart Children are relying on you to give them the best environment and educational training they need for their future success!
I would like to thank the Lodge members who participated in my fundraiser. A good time was had by all— plenty of good food, good friends, and a very nice day. I would especially like to thank the Women of the Moose—Jan, Lara, Jill, and Nikki, and also Mike S. for his help. It was sincerely appreciated by me and my family. John Irwin and Family

From the Governor,
Mike Meador
Welcome to August and, with that, to Herman Stift and Tom Brennan, our newest Lodge officers who round out this year’s Lodge Board. It’s good to have your help, and I am looking forward to working with you. I would like to send a special thanks out to Bill and Linda Mullins for their generous donation of our newest HD TV. It was a great addition for the end of the Blackhawks Stanley Cup run and will be enjoyed for years to come. Stop in for Cubs, Sox, or Bears games and check it out! August will see the Lodge’s Wii bowling league on the big screen, and Sunday football is just around the corner. Our annual Lodge Picnic will be August 25 at the Echo Park Pavilion at 82nd and Woodridge Drive in Woodridge this year, from noon till dusk. Bring a dish to pass and enjoy the company of your fellow Lodge members. Don’t miss Moose Riders Ribs on September 19. Lara Grund has planned a Fall Moose Golf Outing for September 28 at Boughton Ridge Golf Course. It’s a great fundraiser and I’m sure it will be a super time as always. Also, watch for news about the Fall Moose Crawl. Enjoy the rest of the summer!

Rod & Gun Club,
Evan Fitzgerald, President
Summer is here, it’s warming up, and hopefully the rain will give us a break. I hope everyone had a safe and happy July 4th holiday. The Downers Grove Park District will be holding the annual Fishing Derby on Saturday, August 10, at Barth Pond (Patriots Park) on 55th Street from 9 a.m. to 12 noon in the morning. For many years we have co-hosted this event with the Park District, and again this year our skilled team of volunteers will be there to measure and record the fish. The event is open to all ages and is always a lot of fun. Our annual club picnic will be Sunday, August 18, again graciously hosted at the Rudy Boehm Estate. As always it is a family event, bring your kids, a dish to pass, and lawn chairs. Our Man of the Year will be presented at the picnic too!
The first weekend in October is the Fall Fishing Trip in Winneconne, Wisconsin. Details are available at our meetings. Horseshoes continue throughout the summer at Lester’s on the second Wednesday of each month. On a sad note, on July 7, Mr. Rich Potter, a long time Lodge and Rod & Gun member passed away. Over the years, Rich served as an officer, chaired many committees and organized a number of events for our club. Many will remember our Oktober Fest trips to Milwaukee. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Potter family. He was a great and giving friend and is and will be missed. Gentlemen, we still have membership opportunities available. If you are a Lodge member in good standing, enjoy outdoor activities—fishing, hunting, the shooting sports, camping—we welcome you to come and see what we have to offer. We meet on the first and third Wednesdays of each month in the Lodge basement at 8 p.m. Your first year is free of dues! We look forward to seeing you there.

Moose Legion,
Jeff Kindermann, Chair
Hello to all my brother Moose Legionnaires. This year the Moose Legion will celebrate its 100th year anniversary. To celebrate the Supreme Council has authorized the General Governor to waive all application fees for the entire fiscal year—May 1,, 2013–April 30, 2014. In addition to no application fee, dues for the first year are only $10. If you have been a Moose member for six months or have sponsored one accepted applicant into the Moose Lodge, then you are eligible to join the Moose Legion and start your path toward a Higher Degree of Service. Our Moose Legion unit helps support Mooseheart and Moosehaven. Some of the projects are listed below: purchase shirts for Mooseheart T-ball teams, food for annual Mooseheart T-Ball World Series, host annual picnic for Mooseheart community, support Youth Awareness Scholarships, support Mooseheart student trips to Moosehaven, this year funding the update of the sound system at the Fieldhouse at Mooseheart, and • help fund the Superintendent’s Office at Mooseheart School. • • • • • •
On August 4, the Downers Grove Moose Legion will host a Conferral ceremony. All applicants to the Moose Legion must attend a conferral ceremony (approximately 1 hour) to be accepted into the Moose Legion. The unit will serve breakfast starting at 9:30 a.m. followed by the

Moose Riders #1535,
Steve Hernandez, President
Because of our President’s recent incapacitation, Herman Stift is writing this issue’s column as a favor. We wish Steve a speedy recovery. Weʹre back! Moose Riderʹs Ribs will be served Thursday, September 19, from 6 to 8 p.m. Iʹm sure everyone will enjoy them again! Remember, we have a limited supply. Advance purchase is available! Buy your ticket now, especially if you will be late. This coincides with one of the Thursday night NFL games. Watch for postings in the Lodge. Our current ride schedule is Sunday, September 15, Ride for Autism Speaks—KSU, 10:30 a.m. at Fox River Valley Harley-Davidson. Riders will gather at our Lodge beforehand to ride out as a group. This ride is dear to us because four of our past and present Riders kids are challenged with Autism. Please donate generously. Visit www.rideforautismspeaks.com for more information. Many of our Riders go on impromptu rides that are not listed here. Please stay in touch if you are interested. The Lodge Picnic is Sunday, August 25.
