Our Story Born in a promise between two sisters – Nancy Brinker to her sister, Susan G. Komen, who died from breast cancer at the age of 36 – Susan G. Komen for the Cure® is the world’s largest and most progressive grassroots network fighting to end breast cancer forever.

Since 1998, the Central Virginia Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure® has raised over $4 million to provide funding for Central Virginia area organizations that provide breast health screening, treatment and education. The affiliate also provides funding for the Komen National Research Program.

2011 Komen Central Virginia Grantees
The Central Virginia Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure, one of over 125 Affiliates nationwide dedicated to putting an end to breast cancer, recently awarded community grants totaling $643,682 to support breast health education and breast cancer screening and treatment programs in the Central Virginia Affiliate service area. The Komen Central Virginia Affiliate’s local fundraising efforts, such as the Komen Central Virginia Race for the Cure®, have enabled it to fund 15 projects with the following organizations who will improve the lives of women in our area.
