MUSIC MINISTRY FOOD DONATIONS Our Food Pantry continues to serve our communities. For the three Wednesdays in November the Food Pantry served 115 families/306 individuals by dispersing approximately $3,250 in non-perishable food items. God Bless you for your continued generosity and support. The Food Pantry, located in the basement of the old rectory in Mars at 205 Clark Street, is open every Wednesday from 3:00 until 6:00 pm. The Food Pantry is always appreciative of your donations (please do check to make sure donated items have not expired). This week, we are most in need of the following items: Size 4 &5 Diapers Nutrigrain Bars

Instead of singing verses from a psalm this weekend, we sing a text from Isaiah, who tells us the Holy One we await is already in our midst. Three times the crowd around John the Baptist asks, “What should we do?” to prepare for the presence of God. The words from Isaiah answer: cry out with joy, sing praise, give thanks shout with exultation, make God’s deeds known. We are to do so not only by singing, however, but also by putting into practice the Good News that the Holy One has come into our midst to proclaim. We are to care for the needy and to act with justice. We are to show kindness to all. We are to invite all nations into our song of salvation. Then all peoples will hear the Lord singing over them with joy. What a chorus that will be! (reprinted from Living Liturgy, Liturgical Press, Collegeville, MN)

Our choirs can be heard at the following masses:

Baby Wipes

FELLOWSHIP DINNERS These Wednesday evening meals are of great help to our neighbors and provide food and fellowship for those in any need. Dinner is served from 5:00 – 6:00 p.m. every Wednesday in the Parish Hall (next to the church in Mars on the corner of Clark and Cherry Streets). 2016 CALENDAR: We are currently preparing our Fellowship Dinner Calendar for 2016. If your parish group, family or business is interested in sponsoring a dinner, please contact Rob at [email protected]. Our goal is to finalize the 2016 calendar this month.

SCHOOL CORNER In Language Arts eighth grade learners just completed a character analysis essay and presentation focusing on a character from the novel, “The Pearl” by John Steinbeck. They are ready to begin their “Best Christmas Cookie of the Year!” writings where they will have to combine delicious descriptions and convincing conversations to prove their cookie is the best Christmas Cookie ever. In Science, students have been learning about The Periodic Table of Elements and about how the elements form covalent, ionic and metallic bonds. They are also working on their Science Fair Presentations. Presentations will be done in class the week of December 14th 18th. Winners will be announced at the Science Fair in January. In Social Studies, students are finishing a unit on the 1920s. For a final project, students will take on the role of one important figure from the time period and have questions posed to them from the class. Eighth graders also continue an examination of current events on a bi-weekly basis. In math students are learning about the properties of functions. Students are writing functions from tables and graphs. Students practiced finding the domain and range of functions using self-checking task cards. Students completed a task card and then could check their work using the QR scanner on their iPad! Students concluded their function chapter by creating a poster that showed either a linear or nonlinear function as a table, graph, and a realworld problem. Eighth graders are also excited about an upcoming field trip to the Heinz History Center to see a WWII exhibit and to St. Anthony's Chapel to see the collection of relics housed there.
